A long initial message with plenty of detail or something short and sweet which keeps you guessing ?

A couple of lines initially should be enough to pique interest.

Much more than that can be dull .

I hate those long drawn out messages in which they describe exactly what they're going to do to me because I know it definitely won't happen like they say. The scenarios they portray just make me laugh.

I like messages that show they've read my profile. Reading seems to be a lost art on here so those who show they've read it really stand out for me.
