It really depends on what you need it for.

Is it for just browsing the web, doing Office work, video editing, playing games? All have different requirements.

I'd stick to a brand like HP, look for i7 processor with min 4gb RAM and 250 gb hard drive (solid state if possible and within budget). Now you have an idea look at all the big suppliers for deals. Hope that helps.

I always head to PCAdvisor for their latest Best PC summary: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/test-centre/laptop/20-best-laptops-2016-uk-summary-3214618/

There are a few for different budgets.

Asus are good, but if you about on the web you can pick up some damn good deals on gaming laptops.

Main thing is get the best graphics chip you can, most games are ok with lower spec chips but need loads of GPU resources.

I had HP laptops until the last one suddenly died - there was apparently a known fault with the motherboard (as I subsequently found out), but no support/help from HP or shop it was bought from.

With the issues I'm hearing with Windows 10, glad I opted for Mac. They just work. More expensive for what looks like an identical spec machine, but they really do work well. Wish I'd changed over years ago

Ask yourself why nobody in business uses macs other than a handful of graphic designers...

Sorry I'm in the Mac camp. Moved to them 20 years ago and never gone back. My company is all Mac. It's not as uncommon as people think.

Personally, I've got two top end imacs at work and various PC's. I would much rather use the PC, and the Macs give me more issues. Plus, for the cost of one iMac I can buy two comparable PC's.

That's interesting since the mac global market share is a pathetic 7.8% which includes consumers who are overwhelmingly more likely to buy a mac than businesses.
