I don't think it is about how often you have sex,it is more about prioritising it over family,work etc.

When you think about little else,i do think individuals know when its out of control,similar to other addictions.

Like any addiction I guess its when you cant live your life without it - whether that's number of times you have sex in a given period or the fact its never off your mind

No a sex addict is someone who's life is run by sex, every situation you encounter is about sex, if a lady says hello to you you think she wants sex, if your at the traffic light and the person next to you glances at you, you think they want sex, the person in the shop smiles at you, you think they want sex. It's a non stop wanting and needing.

Every part of your life becomes sexualised, it takes over and controls you. Wanting or having sex 4/5 times a day is just being horny but for a sex addict it's not being able to control it or go without is and its near on impossible .

It can be very destructive.

A basic test of addiction is, does your behaviour (whatever that is) affect:

* work

* relationships

* your health

If the answer is yes to any or all of these, you might want to reconsider your behaviour.

People joke about it but it's not funny if you're actually affected by it. As stated in various posts above its when other areas of your life are affected by it. It's a compulsion and you feel unable to control it

It's not you yet, if your a full on sex addict work would come secondary and sex would come 1st. Sex would be your everything .
