We agree with this - from our observations a large proportion do whilst openly saying they don't (and that's not including the very first message we got from once couple which literally said "We know our profile says safe sex only but we are happy not to use condoms with people we like").

I wonder how many of those struck with blind fear or moralising about bare smoke or drink or even drive or cross the road ? You are far far far more likely to die doing any of those than having unprotected sex. People have been having unprotected sex since the dawn of time and yes there are risks as there are with pretty much everything you do and it is your own personal choice whether you do and who you do it with or not. I think in many respects it is more the stigma attached to any sexual illness than the actual threat of it killing you. How many people do you know have died or have had a serious sexually related illness as opposed to a smoking or drinking? Maybe I am lucky but have only had a couple of throat infections over the years - on the other hand I was almost killed crossing the road and have lost three relatives to (smoking related) lung cancer.

Yes there are risks, yes there are some nasty diseases about but can it put into perspective please - it is FAR more about stigma than level of risk.

Absolutely right and unlike the common cold, influenza and gastroenteritis it is symptomless, does not kill and can be cured by one antibiotic tablet.

If you are going to worry about health checks for chlamydia then why not for cold, flu and gastroenteritis? Having said that the GUM clinic is your friend.

I can understand that. I am interested to know what steps do you take to avoid the far more damaging non-STIs diseases? Do you wear masks 24/7? Rubber gloves? Avoid kissing? Never travel to foreign locations? Never smoke? Only eat food that has been sterilised?

I do wonder if people who meet outside fab use condoms always. After all using a condom doesn't guarantee 100% safety with the way we lick and suck these days. We'll all be dead in the next 100 years anyway so live life.
