My understanding of this abbreviation is big beautiful woman. Big arse, big tits and a lot of the time, a big midriff.

Somebody, in the last week, from fab attempted to sow a seed of doubt in my head. I still can't find answers so please let me know what you think:

Is the term BBW derogatory? Please note that I am not asking if you would meet one or not.

I don't use the term BBW because I think everyone is beautiful to someone - not just chubbies

I am sometimes messaged as BBW and I don't take offence but I wouldn't use it myself.....I prefer fat or chubby - because I am - the beautiful is very subjective

Like people said it's subjective I think beauty is in high of the beholder. I'm a size 16 to 18 and consider myself a chubby I've had messages who say nice curves and messages who won't meet cause of my size so it's purely the persons perspective.

I am a very large lady at size 22 to 24 and find the term bbw much easier to explain than putting I am fat so don't mind bbw at all but do get frustrated that men feel anything over size 12 is big that is unrealistic guys I'm totally open about how big I am an confident in my own right what guys have to do is start looking at individuals not mass us ladies into sections

U.K. Averages are pretty high in terms of 'big' or not, across men and women, but beauty is something that's purely individual.

Also, some women suit curves and look great, others do not, same as some with other builds. Stick with what you like, if somebody called me athletic or skinny (I think that's as offensive / descriptive as fat and wouldn't say I am anyway) I wouldn't be offended in the slightest.

It's a term I dislike, but I don't like labels in general , like MILF, Cougar etc.

But it seems to be a term that's here to stay as some clubs have BBW nights and I guess it's hard to think of an alternative that doesn't offend anyone.

I see it as a "ready reckoner". If you see bbw you know you're not getting Victoria Beckham. Thing is there are those that believe those that call themselves that are delusional re the second "b".

Like with most things how people describe themselves be it slut, bbc, tranny, bbw that's fine, just don't assume it's universally accepted.

As for what the initials stand for, I am not offended or query the 'beautiful' bit. People should stop being quite so literal. It is merely used to describe a larger lady who is confident with her size, its meant as a positive term.

We all know that no all larger ladies are beautiful just as an equal amount of slimmer ladies are not beautiful either

I agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but do also think that voluptuous is a far better description to a woman that has big curves which in general BBW alludes to.

Big breasts, a big ass and belly and sometimes thick thighs are things that are generally attributed to the common phrases used but none of the mean generally fat. Good rule of thumb it's breasts bigger than belly

I think the moral of this thread is that women can describe themselves as BBW (if they like the term) and if a lady does use BBW to define herself, feel free to use it in message.

Guys need to have a bit of sensitivity otherwise (size and body shape can be a sensitive subject for both sexes). Complement her on appearance, humour, pics etc just don't use the term as not all girls are comfortable being described as such.

If I were a betting man, I would bet my dick that the OP is a bbw fan. Some may not like the term bbw, which is of course their prerogative.

Truth be told, I never heard of the term being used as an insult. Never in my life until I came across this thread where the OP is being thrown to the wolves.

I don't like the term. For starters, it seems to denote that big always equals beautiful. Which to me means someone calling me that is fetishising my size rather than me as a person. Plus I have worked bastard hard to get from a size 22 down to a 14. Calling me a BBW would be akin to a slap in the face.

People have contacted us on here and said that I am a lovely BBW, oh I love BBWs, BBW's are my favourite etc. and people have used the term when we have been at clubs too.

Why just those sizes? A lot of bigger women dislike it but they just have to accept it cos they're chubsters?

A lot of 14-16 women use it as a descriptor. I've even seen someone who was a size 12 use it.

There is no defined size at which it is used, there is no rule to say anyone who is over a size 18 must use it or like it being used when addressing them.
