Say someone approaches you and you say 'no thank you'.

And then they say 'will you have sex with me if I spoil you with things you want?'

Is that prostitution in your eyes?

Because I'm not a prostitute. I think to prostitute yourself there has to be an intent to shag someone for money, whether its voluntary or not.

In my eyes?..none

Transactional sex is when a gift is given in exchange for sex.. A bit like a sugar daddy type scenario

Prostitution is when a set pre determined sum of money or gift is exchanged for sex

It turns women into disposable commodities so.. There definitely is something wrong with it. Many European countries that legalised have been hit with scandals involving forced prostitution and trafficking ..

Before someone hits back with.. What about male prostitutes.. The same sentiment stands.

.

Don't judge anyone that does it, only the men who visit them and perpetuate the commerce of misogyny.

I think that if goods or services are directly exchanged for sex then it is effectively prostitution.

Oddly I have refused sex when offered it in return for giving a friend an old laptop I didn't need. I've taken money for sex acts.

Nothing wrong with it if everyone is consenting.

I have a few friends who have worked as independent escorts - several women and one man. I'd say that to my knowledge two suffered psychological damage from which they did recover and the rest suffered no damage. It's certainly not without risks.

I've dabbled and enjoyed it but it's never been something I have done because I needed to. The opportunity arose and I decided to take it.

My _iew is that it is clear there is demand and people willing to fill that demand. De-stigmatise sex work and bring it (relatively) out into the open...that way the sex workers are better protected and anyone treating them badly is more likely to be caught.

But of course that would probably lead to the tabloids discovering exactly which politicians visit which sex workers....

A world of my own

Sex is a very powerful currency.

If I was attracted to someone and they wanted to 'spoil me' I'd enjoy it.

It's not prostitution.

If however I wasn't attracted to them and it was only on the promise of some gain.. then it becomes a transaction .

Transactions happen all the time. For money. For promotion. For special favours. For revenge. Or just because they can

Good luck to them.

"Say someone approaches you and you say 'no thank you'.

And then they say 'will you have sex with me if I spoil you with things you want?'

Is that prostitution in your eyes?"

Silly question to ask as payment for services doesn't have to be money payment takes all forms.

Depends on the circumstances. There are women in the world now who are having to sleep with scumbags just to stay alive.

"I would run a mile if any one offered me a reward for sex.

"

How about a Marathon?

"No, more like bribery. And I still wouldn't shag him. "

What she says - bribery and desperation are two things that come to mind

Whether someone gives sex for money or for things that would hold monetary value is irrelevant to us, it's all prostitution.

Sex, in our eyes, is for one of two things; Love or pleasure and often both. I would say that anyone seeking sex here is more than likely doing it for the pleasure, but they should not be doing it for any kind of payment, in cash or goods and services.

I don't really think it's a 'silly' question. I think it's interesting to get peoples opinions on how they feel about it.

There's clearly more than one opinion, therefore it's not a silly question.

That would depend on what is meant by "spoil you with things you want" if it means he will do whatever sex acts you want to turn you one then no.

If he means he will buy you presents or meals etc. to get you into bed then yes.

Near Carmarthen

To expand on this question.

A guy buying a mail order bride is often seen by society as a 'sad loser' explointing the disparity in wealth. An ageing rich star doing the same and marrying a much younger girl (who wouldn't have looked at him twice without the money) is ofted feted in the media. Why does society _iew them differently and is this prostitution?
