THIS DEFINITELY DOES SEEM TO MAKE SENSE.

LET'S TRY IT!

We are hitting £129.9 a litre in some areas now and soon we will be faced with paying £1.50 per litre. So Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign' that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it. and if you agree, join in...

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS - not sellers, control the market place. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year (2011) DON'T purchase ANY fuel from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one) i.e. ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers all around the world.

Well, it's really simple to do!!

Please don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach the millions of fuel-buyers we need to make it work.

I am sending this note to at least 30 people. If all of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)....and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on. By the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it.....

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all YOU have to do is send this to 10 people

(or as many as you can). That's all you have to do plus NOT buy motor fuel at ESSO/BP).

So how long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 plus MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

AND PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES.

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell,Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc. i.e. Boycott BP and Esso.

Just imagine the panic at BP and Esso Headquarters when

the fuel sales (and product sales from their forecourt shops) suddenly begin to fall.

Send this to ten e-addresses (or as many as you can) and not buy anything at BP or Esso forecourts. A simple yet effective way to see what a difference People Power can make.

I was agreeing with you and it is in a couple of other forums too!

There are reasons it wont work though. The main one being this email campaign has been going around for years and hasn't made the slightest bit of dfference and never will.

i think in this country we just put up with high prices because we only look out for number one.

you got to hand it to the french because as soon as they dislike something all hell breaks loose and the country stops.

fighting and criminal damage is not the answer but sometimes when people have had enough this is all they can do to express anger when the powers that be are not listening.

I only buy from Asda anyway cause it's roughly 3p per litre cheaper than Tesco....but I dont know who supplies them to be fair...

petrol sales for the big refineries is a very small part of their income. by far the larger part is from lubricating oil, which virtualy every piece moving machinery in the world uses, and needs replacing regardless of whether it uses petrol or not. also the biggest proportion of the cost of a litre of fuel goes to the government, if the government reduce their take they have to raise the money in other ways or make cuts in their spending. i am not trying to piss on yer bonfire just saying it is not as black and white as it looks.

Looks like the mods have been trimming in here, oh well.

It's a 5 year old+ idea that hasn't worked yet.

...and for the record I buy my fuel from supermarkets anyway given the choice.

Yup, like many ideas its gonna fall flat on its ass, I saw it on another forum and re-posted it.

It hasnt worked for the last 5 years for one reason.... people make all the right noises, but when push comes to shove and it comes down to actually doing something about it, they swerve it and carry on moaning.

There is not a massive difference between the major EU countries and unleaded fuel prices.....the main difference is that in EU countries that have lower Duty rates the petrol companies often make more per litre profit.

As of today at 9am these are the average EU unleaded prices per litre;

France £1.32

Germany £1.29

Eire £1.23

Italy £1.25

Holland £1.43

Portugal £1.21

Spain £1.07

Note that both Spain and Portugal have announced that they intend to raise duty on fuel considerably from April 1st of this year.

It's all much of a muchness really

I have American cousins in the military. A few years ago one was based at Mildenhall airbase in Suffolk. One weekend they were driving down to London. After about 30 miles she realised she had forgot to fill up her tank. so she drove back to the base! a 60 mile round trip and it was still cheaper.

Cheap Booze too if somewhat rationed

I don't claim to have one, but the fact that I can't solve the reducing availability of oil and a global financial crisis in a single post on a swinging website should not be taken as a validation of the suggestion you made.

No. As possibly dozens have stated previously, it hasn't worked because it doesn't solve the problem.

If you boycott one forecourt chain, a bunch of franchisees go out of business while the brand owner continues to refine and sell a range of oil-based products to all and sundry. The government continues to get its share as the overall volume of fuel being purchased is constant.

But, if you want to continue blaming my perceived apathy, go right ahead. I'm off out.
