That's subjective though. The guys I know that are into it consider it pleasure. That's how they perceive it at the time. As one said, "if it hurt, why would I do it?". I conceded he had a point. He says he doesn't enjoy pain, he just sometimes interprets things that would normally be painful as pleasure.

Of course there are limits for everyone .

Looking at legal websites, it seems that incidental bruising and cutting are not "actual bodily harm". However cuts which require medical attention and cuts/bruises which interfere with the person's confort during normal tasks are. Any broken bone is ABH or GBH. Bruises lasting more than a few days might be.
