Fisting and attempted fisting should never result in tears or blood, that's why it's best if at least one of the participants is experienced. An inexperienced person in either role ideally will learn from a partner who is experienced.

The idea that "you cannot have too much lube" has some truth to it. Lube, either natural or from a bottle is going to be one of your biggest allies in fisting. it depends how it is done. Porn sometimes portrays fast, rough punch fucking which might be described as brutal and I have had one partner who likes it that way.
