I've been out a couple of times to well known dogging sites, it's been really quiet, be nice to see some genuine people out who are still into it?

Yes, it still goes on and is quite easy to find if you're willing to explore.

I know of 9 places, all within 45 mins drive or where I live.

Although this time of year is not ideal and generally, there are less couples out nowadays.
