I read as being extremely large, afterall it is at the end of the body type list and I presumed the site creators meant it as such, as a kinder way of saying obese but have seen it used by people with very toned athletic bodies

In initiating this thread I was not wishing to be rude to anyone, just wondering what exactly it meant as the term seems to be adopted by people with very varying body types. If a profile has no photos it makes it difficult to decide whether to send a message if you are looking for a particular shape and size.

What has the word fabulous got to do with size, and why are people associating it with very large women. To me fabulous is a word meaning incredible, astounding, or when people say, had a fab time, ie; marvellous Fabswingers for example,it means fabulous swingers ie; the best, incredible, astounding people, does not mean everyone on here is supersized swingers.

the word curvy does not relate to a size either. What I think of as a curvy woman is a woman with an hourglass figure, ie; boobs, usually big, noticable waist, ie; slimmer at that point, hips flared out again.

Just cos we're swingers doesnt mean we can change the meaning of words in the english dictionary.

I find it strange that there are three words to describe someone with a bodyshape larger than average, four if you count "fabulous", yet only one to describe someone slimmer. I don't count athletic in the slimmer variety as it generally means slimmer round the waist, but muscular (ie bigger on chest, shoulders etc) when referring to blokes?

Surely it would be much less confusing to only use descriptions which actually mean something and create an image in someone's mind...what about:

skinny

slim

medium

large

very large

none of the above could be described as pejorative terms and so should not offend anyone whilst also providing helpful information about actual body size.

Back of Beyond

We've seen it to describe larger ladies, but more often than not, to describe women who really think they belong in Hollywood.

Those that believe they are so glamourous they should be mixing with the likes of Paris Hilton or Vikky Beckham, not with us average sized 'ordinary' people.

Once we see fabulous on a profile we pass it by, they are more often than not stuck up their own ringpiece.

Possibly it isn't MEANT to tell you any thing about their body type /BMI/ whatever.

If someone has the confidence/ delusional tendencies/affrontery/ high opinion of themselves to CALL THEMSELVES fabulous...

It tells you about the personality type not the physical specimen

Why is a person delusional for seeing themselves as fabulous or whatever else?Is it because we are judging them by yours or other people's standards. If they say fabulous on their profile and when we meet I don't find them attractive then it's up to me to make the next move.

I changed my body type from average to athletic on advicement from a couple of ladies.

I don't consider 'fabulous' to be a very large lady, I think it somewhere between an over inflated ego and not wanting to admit they're a larger lady but not necessarily bigger than large.

To us curvy means looking like the '50's screen idols, Sophia Loren, Jane Mansfield, Diana Dors and,of course Marilyn Monroe.

I still think that most of the descriptions on here obscure rather than inform...I think slim, large and ample are useful...fabulous,curvy,average and athletic are misleading...some people think average is size 12 others think size 16.Some people think darts and beer drinking are athletic activity.

As we all largely choose our own body sizes by eating and excercise habits why should anyone be offended by neutral but meaningful descriptions?

I think athletic is more cut and dried, it can generally be the sort of build expected on a sportsperson, generally muscular or toned (and no,I don't include darts as a sport for this purpose). Fabulous, however can mean either; Very big, cover model type, can't be bothered working out what bracket I'll fit into so I'll put this, or with regards to gay men absolutely anything whatsoever....

Yes of course that is absolutely true

But at the same time No it's not

we all have our personal idea of "FABULOUS"

But at the same time we know that the the wider world the majority opinion "the man or woman in the street/on the Clapham Omnibus" has an idea of what is "fabulous"

For example thinking back to the much missed (in this house) "Strictly Come Dancing"...

The person in the street will think Natalie Lowe had a FABULOUS body and Anne Widdecombe er... DIDN'T

"What has the word fabulous got to do with size, and why are people associating it with very large women.

"

Can never understand why people would doctor their pics .

Ive looked round socials for people before thinking they are not there. Then someone tells me who they are, can be a real eye opener. Unfortunatly i look just like my pictures and every i know recognizes me instantly.

Why do people say they are curvey when they are fat, and size 10 to 12 when they are 16+?

Maybe their mirrors and scales are not the same as the rest of us?

"What exactly does a fabulous body mean? Unlike slim or average etc this term seems meaningless. "

Pretty obvious really as the sizes go up on a sliding scale. Use the word fabulous as what other phrase would you suggest? Some people still seem confused by it though....

we've met "attractive" people who'd look better if they wore a mask, we've met "athletic" people built like darts players and "tall" people who'd bump their arse stepping off the pavement.

There are plenty of people who are not what they say they are, or even what they portray themselves as

You say you are size 10 but by which shop?, as they vary so much from store to store.

Also a size sixteen can look great on a lady who is 5ft 9 compared to one at 5ft 1.

I am a size 16 at the top and 12 at the bottom, so how the hell do I describe me

We agree. fabulous is in the eye of the beholder. Personally we pass by any profiles where people describe themselves as "beautiful" or "stunning".

Far too vain for our liking.

I guess we all make our own choices but seems a little negative to make such a snap judgement, after all when your partner has written a profile with you and describes you that way it doesnt mean you are vain. Also what happened to being confident? Seems unnecessary as it wasnt really related to the op. Have met many who are indeed as gorgeous as they say and couldnt be less stuck up! Your profile is an advert afterall. Notice your comment on another thread about peeps being nasty...

I personally don't care what people decide to put on their profile, as they are advertising themselves. Profiles that purport to be "stunning" usually continue along the lines "no oompah loompas/fatties" please. You can be confident without insulting others but if it attracts like minded people it works for them, although I daresay it will also put others off.

As for "bbw" it's a label used to let others know you're bigger than normal. It's not one I like myself but smart enough to know the user doesn't necessarily see herself as "beautiful" in the same way as the "stunners" obviously do...but why do I think you know that?!!

Actually Im making the point that I dont know why any women have to bash other women about looks or confidence. Personally know women of all different shapes, sizes and looks. Would not be happy about critisising any women because of their confidence size or looks. Being self confident is a very attractive quality in itself no matter what your physical attributes are. I think judging people by very sketchy details is never a very sound judgement. I have never understood why women judge eachother in this way either side. Its not something I agree with and I find it ugly reading.

Maybe the description of fabulous is just how they feel about themselves, and why not?.I am 12 half stone and have been for 20 + years and wish I could put a bit of weight on.
