So following on from recent threads about separating TS/TV there appeared to be a lot of confusion around some of the terms used. So in the spirit or education and learning, what do you think are the basics that people should know?

Ok, good start, lets myth bust that one. So a TV can be straight bi or gay right? Is that the same for CDs?

Not quite, what about if the women was born a woman but wanted a penis to a transexual? You would then technically be straight. As she was 100% female.

Sensitive nipples,

always work out the ground rules regarding the "front" before play (ruins the mood if you do it during)

Cellulite free bums,

Very clean bum holes.

Perfect beautiful soft skin

Thats the main areas i think

"Nothing transphobic going on here , it's fact that if a a human is born with a dick and balls it's a bloke lol end of discussion "

My sisters best friend that she went through primary and secondary school with as a boy, a boy that was gay and was allowed to sleep over the girls houses. Remember when they were 15 and they went to download festival and they came back and the boy was spewing in my mums and sobbing his heart out and I didn't know what the hell had gone on, my sister told me that he had sex with a girl (first time) and it broke his heart, he felt disgusted and was physically ill from it. Fast forward 5 years and he or she has had her birth certuficate changed by law to show her sex as female, she's had counselling and various psychological assessments. She was put on hormones by her gp which made her breasts develop and the dick to shrink, she's now had a boob job and is in the process of having all the male business equipment taken away. She was genuinely a girl born in a boys body.

It happens and easily so and if you know anything about biology and chromosomes. You'll a know an XX is female and an XY is male. The woman only produces X chromosomes and the sex is determined by the male sperm it will either be an X that fertilises the egg this making the embreo a female or it will be a Y which makes the embreo a male. That's why men have nipples and they don't need them because they could easily have been a female. A clit is an undeveloped penis which would have grown had it been a boy and the ridge above your mouth is the last thing that forms on an embreo and is the reason why some people have clef flip and palette. (That's not related to this but as we're talking about biology)

Source fucking me a hyperthymesic highly superior autobiographical memory machine of a woman!

Gender is a spectrum. Most people, probably 95%, are clearly male or female and happy in their gender role.

But a significant number of people are not. some are "trans" in that they genuinely feel they were born with the wrong genitals. They might "transition" to live as a woman (Male to Female or MTF) or as a man (Female to Male FTM). They might take hormones to act, look and sound more like the gender they feel is appropriate to them. They might have surgery (gender reassignment surgery, formerly known as a sex change).

To me, once someone has started seriously transitioning and living in their "new" gender then they are that gender regardless of what is between their legs.

There are also people who don't feel they are male or female, they are "non binary". And there are people who are "gender fluid" who's feelings on their own gender change.

Some women are born with dicks. some men are born with vaginas. Get over it.

To add to my post above, trans people might be gay, straight or bi. Just like everyone else.

TV is "transvestite", a person who enjoys wearing the clothes of the other gender....so a man who likes wearing clothes traditionally associated with women (dresses, skirts, lingerie perhaps) or a woman who wears masculine clothing (business suits, for example).

They also might be straight, gay or bi. Some people simply get a kick out of cross dressing.

I don't identify as trans or TV/CD (crossresser). I'm a man born with a penis who enjoys wearing clothes sold in the menswear department. But I am not narrow minded. The human race is made up of lots of different types of people and the trans and TV/CD people are not doing any harm.

Hmm from a biological perspective, particularly genetic, it could be argued that men are incomplete women anyway, as some of the genetic material that is not present on the Y chromasome contributes to the processing of testosterone to oestrogen and the subsequent bodily changes.

So perhaps it is time we stopped looking at our species through binary goggles and accepted that there is potentially a spectrum from male to female, just as there is with sexuality, race etc.

Those not at either end of the scale should certainly not be viewed as "it" or simply the closest pole their genetalia could indicate. Perhaps we don't have the correct terms to hand, and it's about time we did, but more respect is certainly needed.

1. Transexual is usually considered to be an old fashioned word for what is now termed transgender. Some consider it a little offensive.

2. Some people retain the identifier 'transgender' after they have completed transitioning, some people don't. It's really down to the individual.

3. It depends on the context. Sometimes you might see it written as LGBTQ*

L - Lesbian

G - Gay

B - Bisexual

T - Transgender

Q - Queer

* - Intersex

4. Queer has a few different meanings depending on the individual. Most loosely, it's a term for anything not cisgender or heterosexual.

As I understand it "transexual" specifically refers to someone who has or wishes to transition. "Transgender" refers to all people who don't fit into that binary box of "male born with a dick" and "female born with a pussy"...so that includes gender fluid and non-binary people.

Please someone correct me if I am wrong, I am not an expert but I have tried to learn about people.

LGBT - Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans

Sometimes now there is a Q added for "queer" or a + added (as in LGBT+) to indicate that people of all genders and sexualities are being included.

Labels can be both helpful and negative. But on the whole human beings like to label things....and other human beings.

Gender is something we are still generally coming to understand. Because the vast majority of people are identifiably male or female, the idea that some might be "something else" has taken time to catch on.

"1)Is transsexual the same as transgender, or is there a subtle difference?"

I am probably going to get this wrong but I think transgender means all people who at some time feel some discomfort with their birth-assigned gender. Transsexual, which is now an out-dated term, means someone who is truly born with certain brain functions of the opposite gender. There are some scientific papers of experiments and research on the subject and one can Google these; quite an interesting read

"2)If you are a post op transexual, are you still a transexual, or have you then transitioned into your new gender"

Anatomically and physiologically that person is now the new gender, so either male or female. Legally, the position is unclear as was demonstrated in a thread a couple of months ago about the female prisoner

To be legally recognised in the new gender, they have to make applications which are either approved or rejected. I don't know how or why they are rejected but apparently these are sometimes rejected

"3) how many letters are meant to be after LGBT these days, and what do they mean?"

At work, we have a LGBTIQA group

The I is for Intersex

The Q is for Queer (which I thought was an offensive term but apparently it is not)

The A is for Asexual

I don't fully understand what these all mean

"4) when I was growing up, queer was another word for homosexual, is it still that, or does it have another meaning now?

Just picking up on one point you mentioned regarding brain function (stands by for the barrage of lack of brain jokes), we were discussing, (me and my wife) how I think and wondered if I had my brain scanned if it would appear to be a female response.

I've often been teased/bullied for not thinking like men do.

No?

You think he might not realise that tv's and ts's can be born with female reproductive organs and grow breasts as they develop?

It hasn't made me smile - it has made me more than a bit fed up! I hope swinging can be all about tolerance for others, liberated views and open-minded, live and let live attitudes. Sexual orientation and masculine and feminine traits are fascinating elements of each unique human being - find someone you have similar interests with and with whom there is mutual attraction.....negotiate your boundaries then enjoy exploring each other - why complicate it with labels and prejudices? m x

3) how many letters are meant to be after LGBT these days, and what do they mean?

At work, we have a LGBTIQA group

The I is for Intersex

The Q is for Queer (which I thought was an offensive term but apparently it is not)

The A is for Asexual

I don't fully understand what these all mean

4) when I was growing up, queer was another word for homosexual, is it still that, or does it have another meaning now?

No idea

[ I hope I haven't offended anyone with my limited understanding and if I have, then I apologise in advance ]

Just picking up on one point you mentioned regarding brain function (stands by for the barrage of lack of brain jokes), we were discussing, (me and my wife) how I think and wondered if I had my brain scanned if it would appear to be a female response.

I've often been teased/bullied for not thinking like men do. "

I do not know if I am allowed to post outside links here, so I'll mention some of the studies

The male and female brain are not sooooo different from each other, but are "sexually dimorphic"

The three studies which pop up almost immediately if you use the correct search terms in Google are to do with:

1) Differences in the brain's white matter that clash with a person’s genetic sex

2) forceps minor

3) Olfactory functions

There are a few more studies but those went straight over my head

"Always remember a tv and a ts are men !! So if you meet either your not straight

So if a man meets a genetic female who is either a tv or TS you're not straight?

Don't confuse the poor guy

But surely someone who has the confidence to make such a generalised statement must know what they're talking about?

No?

You think he might not realise that tv's and ts's can be born with female reproductive organs and grow breasts as they develop?"

In all honesty I think too many people see it as exclusively male to female.

I'm a big believer in fab splitting CD/Tv from TS/TG...seen plenty of threads on the subject and I understand they're completely different....trying to explain things to people who either don't understand or don't want to understand is not easy....as this thread is unfortunately showing.

Unfortunately with posts such as this your are always going to get imbecile bigots posting who have their opinions set in stone and want to cause trouble.

I am sure many of the People on this site who identify under TV/TS label will happily answer directly if people have questions, all that can be achieved from a post such as this is people opinions.

Congratulations for not understanding people at all.

What?

Was meant to be a pro comment that people are worth more and labels shouldn't be the be all and end all."

And for other people, labels are very important to us because they help define us. When you are not 'the norm', your self-identified label helps you to find other people who might be like you or who might be interested in you.

If you don't have a 'label' then you might as well assume that you're white, cisgender, and heterosexual. Because that's the default norm.

I would say that Western modern culture in general puts greater importance on gender than some other cultures do or have."

It's not just gender, it's obsessed with defining everything into neat and tidy definitions. How else could you have tick box forms for everyone to fill out?

I am probably going to get this wrong but I think transgender means all people who at some time feel some discomfort with their birth-assigned gender. Intersex - someone who is born with indeterminate genitals, sex characteristics that are of more than one gender, or with chromosomes that don't match the way that the person outwardly appears. (Roughly)

Queer - it's a bit like nigger. If I call a black man a nigger it's pretty offensive. If a black man calls his black friends niggers then it's appropriation and reclaimed. I don't like people calling me queer because it was once an insult. But I'm comfortable calling myself queer, and I'm comfortable calling my queer friends queer.

Asexual - not interested in sex or sexual relationships. Can still be romantically inclined.

Thanks for those who have taken the time to answer my questions.

Would it be fair to say that quite a few of these terms are subjective and their definitions are not uniformly agreed upon? It seems as though one could easily cause unintended offense.

Yes, I understand the words. I just find it difficult to accept that there are people in this world who have absolutely no desire to have sex with anyone of any sex or sexuality, whatsoever, ever

But that is because I am not Asexual; an asexual person person probably has similar difficulties understanding me

Similarly, those who are not transgender, although do their best, sometimes have difficulty in understanding how, for example, one person can move between sexes (or is it genders; apologies if I got it wrong). This does not mean that it is not happening or that there is something wrong here. Just that it is outside the experience of the majority

O o O oo

Ok a few points.

To post on the forum you have to keep within the rules. Bad mouthing/ attacking posters no matter what the provocation will earn you a ban. If you think something breaks rules, report the post instead.

Mods are not here 24 hours a day and even if they were they are probably not going to be reading any posts that break rules as they are posted so please don't dispute what they do on the forum, give them a chance to actually read.

I said a long time ago that a thread like this would help dispel some myths but no one took the bait and started one , but I have to say, it gets to be a bit like the "fat people "threads, all you get is people making bitchy comments when you get someone making a comment you may not like and it really doesn't help.

Finally....lets have some respect for all users on the site, if you post to deliberately offend then you will probably find you can't post for a while.

Crossdresser, they like to wear women's clothing for men, men's clothing for women, wether partly as in lingerie or fully dressed.

TV, they try to look convincing as in make up, shape wear, they look convincing as the sex they are trying to be.

Transsexual, these are the people who feel they are in the wrong body. They need to go through a lot to be allowed to be given gender reassignment treatment. Calling these a TV can be an insult as they feel they are not trying to be something.

Indeed utter crap.

A straight guy can be attracted to a TV because they look feminine.

A TS (eg MTF) is a woman in my book regardless of what equipment she has between her legs. Of course it's important to know if play or dating is on the cards...but she's all woman as far as I am concerned.

I always feel these whateverphobic words are unhelpful. To me a phobia is something that scares you not something you don't like or disapprove of. Personally I think much better words would be transdemure and/or homodemure.

In my youth people often used to tell me I was homophobic and I always disagreed with them. If they had told me I was homedemure I would have understood what they meant and might have learned the error of my ways sooner.

For the record I still consider myself straight just not home or trans demure any more.

So, first thing first; we need a thread to come up with labels for sausages so that there are no misunderstandings

How about the 'sausage' in a McDonald's 'pancake & sausage' breakfast or the 'sausage & egg McMuffin'. They're not even sausage shaped ffs. How does that work?

Well since I said "end of discussion" nobody is allowed to present counter evidence or have a different opinion.

But since you bring it up, they aren't really sausages and they are meat balls in denial.

As human beings, we're inclined, obsessively so, to pigeon hole things. Everything has to be labelled, in its own neat category, otherwise we get all scared and start blaming things on the devil and witchcraft. But in reality, having strict categories for most things isn't really that important.

For my own purposes, I think of transvestites as those who have assumed the identity of a female, but not on a biological level. I'm contrast, transsexuals have gone one step further, undergoing surgery or taking hormones so tat they more closely resemble the archetypal female - whatever that is

But that's just me

"1)Is transsexual the same as transgender, or is there a subtle difference?

2)If you are a post op transexual, are you still a transexual, or have you then transitioned into your new gender?

3) how many letters are meant to be after LGBT these days, and what do they mean?

4) when I was growing up, queer was another word for homosexual, is it still that, or does it have another meaning now?

Q - Queer

* - Intersex

4. Queer has a few different meanings depending on the individual. Most loosely, it's a term for anything not cisgender or heterosexual."

"Ok a few points.

Sorry I shall behave x"

Oh and after viewing the most appalling and bias editing of a post I totally withdraw my apology ....

"i think most people with a brain know the difference by now ..dont really see the point in going over it all again..

It may seem that way to a member of that community, but to an outsider wanting to learn, not cause offense, and potentially be an ally to the community, there is still a lot to learn. Or perhaps I just don't have a brain? 'That community?? where have you been living? I have more straight friends (10 years) than ts you need to get out more. lol."

I'm not suggesting that anyone who is trans wouldn't have straight friends. I'm saying that I don't currently have any trans friends, colleagues or associates. I used to have a trans lecturer in college that I was very close to, but these kind of topics and questions were never discussed. No one in my circle of friends is trans, no one in my family is, no one I work with is either. I haven't deliberately engineered it so, thats just the way it is. In the same vein I could ask you how many Burmese people you know, I wouldn't be surprised if the answer was none, but I also wouldn't assume that you have something against Burmese people or thst you were deliberately excluding them from your life. You say get out more, but to me in would feel inauthentic an disingenuous to seek someone out to become friends with based purely because they were transgender.

Not everyone, female to males have been mentioned in this thread.

Our current culture does consider gender important, some cultures past and present less so.

I do think that each individual also has their own internal understanding of how important another person's gender is to them.

"Nothing transphobic going on here , it's fact that if a a human is born with a dick and balls it's a bloke lol end of discussion

Source fucking me a hyperthymesic highly superior autobiographical memory machine of a woman!"

Your point is?

I am aware of conditions of extra X or Y chromosomes existing. It would be interesting if every person who have undergone medical treatment to become the opposite gender, had a dna test to look at the sex chromosome "pair".

No. Without dna testing, it simply indicates biological sex. Sex and gender are different.

It hasn't made me smile - it has made me more than a bit fed up! I hope swinging can be all about tolerance for others, liberated views and open-minded, live and let live attitudes. Sexual orientation and masculine and feminine traits are fascinating elements of each unique human being - find someone you have similar interests with and with whom there is mutual attraction.....negotiate your boundaries then enjoy exploring each other - why complicate it with labels and prejudices? m x"

Labels and stereotyping are important aspects. It would be impossible to live and face every situation as brand new. Labels and stereotyping give us a point to start from and expand our knowledge appropriately. Sadly this can sometimes err and knowledge isn't expanded and prejudices are formed.

It wasnt about attraction purposes it was about what people should know, our only post stated that if someone drops their trousers and there is a penis there then its a man, that guys is only a fact and no matter how strong your argument is ,it is only a man in a dress.

You often see really butch lesbians in mens clothes with another pretty/semi pretty lesbian but the clothing and the rolled up cigarette behind the butch girls ear does not make her a male either similar to a man donning a dress.

No. Some women are born with penises and some men are born with vaginas.

"What do you call a cisgendered male who doesn't want to have sex with anyone with a penis? "

It depends on if they would have sex with a trans man who doesn't have a penis. If the answer is "yes" they they might be bi or gay with a preference for trans men.

Gender is not defined by what a person has between their legs. This has been understood in academic and medical circles since the 1950s, and was probably better understood by some ancient societies.

We are in no way labelling people or bashing them for their sexuality ...were just commenting on our observations of ts/tv....seriously if there is a penis involved then its a guy,men that shag men in a dress then they can claim to be whatever sexuality they like as it really does not bother us either way but we would call it homosexuality which is fine if they are both that way inclined

I can only speak for myself but I am not attracted to men, be they cis or trans. So a man who is attracted to trans men would surely be either bi or gay? If he's attracted to women too (regardless of their "bits") then I would say he is bi. If he's only attracted to men then I would she he's gay.

But then you can have sex with one man as an experiment and still be straight.

I am heteexible. Not attracted to men at all and don't even know what people find attractive about us men...but been known to play in a MMF or group situation.

So perhaps some people are only interested in gender, but not sex, and other people are interested in both sex and gender?

"

I would venture that some people are only interested in particular *bodies* rather than 'sex'.

I'm really confused now! Help me catch up, what's the difference between sex (not intercourse) and bodies?

"What do you call a cisgendered male who doesn't want to have sex with anyone with a penis?

It depends on if they would have sex with a trans man who doesn't have a penis. If the answer is "yes" they they might be bi or gay with a preference for trans men.

Gender is not defined by what a person has between their legs. This has been understood in academic and medical circles since the 1950s, and was probably better understood by some ancient societies.

And if the answer is no?

I understand the sex and gender difference, but if a cis-man, had sex with a man with a vagina, why is that homosexual, rather than homogender? We are in no way labelling people or bashing them for their sexuality ...were just commenting on our observations of ts/tv....seriously if there is a penis involved then its a guy,men that shag men in a dress then they can claim to be whatever sexuality they like as it really does not bother us either way but we would call it homosexuality which is fine if they are both that way inclined

There's really not alot of point in trying to make you understand things, is there?

You're stuck in your views and refuse to open your mind to the world around you. As long as you're happy, I suppose. But I'd prefer personally that you stopped spouting your bigoted crap all over the forums because it's genuinely hurtful to some of us."

Dont read it....do not call us biggots as you do not know us,if you think our views are biggoted then report them , if your hurt by forum posts then please do not use the forum, were simply commenting and are entitled to our own view ,most peoples views on this we see as fucked up but we dont call them biggots!!!

It's just a better way of putting it.

"Biological sex" can be a difficult thing to pin down. Some people are biologically female according to their chromosomes, but have been born with a fully functioning penis and no female sex characteristics.

Being attracted to a certain kind of *body* though (for instance - one with a penis and testicles, or one with breasts and a vagina) is an easier thing to quantify. There's no reliable way of measuring someones sex if you're not a doctor doing a blood test.

You are displaying intolerance to other peoples (scientifically correct) views. You're a bigot.

What about those who are born "genetically" female, but are also born with a penis? Or "genetically" male, but with breasts and a vagina? Not quite as clear cut as you seem to think.

"

It's not merely a viewpoint. It is verifiable scientific information. But you choose to ignore this. That wilful ignorance is what makes you a bigot.
