Hi I had one of my nipples pierced about 5 months ago, all healed & enjoyably sensitive but yesterday I noticed I have a hole through the centre of my nipple & can see the bar, it's not sore or red or infected - has anyone had this or know anyone who has. I'm in two minds if I should take it out??

I've never heard of this, perhaps go to your piercer and ask their advice?

"I've never heard of this, perhaps go to your piercer and ask their advice?"

I phoned him, he did some research & came back to me as he had never heard of it, said keep an eye on it, if the hole gets bigger then go see him or the doctor but wants me to keep him informed.

Has he suggested keeping it covered up for now, or just to carry on and keep an eye on it?

Was your nipple inverted before the piercing? Can you touch the bar or is the skin just very see through? Could it be a milk duct that's gotten bigger? Google t bar nipple piercing they look pretty cool you could always adapt it to one of those

I know that they will eventually migrate out but shouldn't on that short space of time.

After chatting with my piercer & another who has contacted me I am going to leave the bar in & use antiseptic cream for a few days to see if it does any good but where the hole is I'm thinking you could all be right about it being a milk duct, if anything happens I will repost, thanks.

The reason I say they could migrate is a bloke I know had his done and they did. He may just be the exception. Mine haven't either so I would say just keep an eye on the situation

Had my nipple done 9 years ago without any issues whatsoever but I know some people experience the bar "growing out". But your issue sounds different, and I've not discovered anything by using Google.

I'd follow the piercer's advice while bearing in mind that it might be worth visiting your GP if it hurts or bleeds. If it's not hurting or causing any other problems it might be OK to see what happens - bear in mind I am not a health expert though.

Good idea.. keep putting some Bepanthen cream (spelling) on it..

I know its expensive but its good and helps with new tattoos as well..

best of luck.. let us know how you get on..

Thanks guys, it doesn't hurt, it's not red & no discharge etc so fingers crossed with daily cream for a while it may heal, I'm hoping it's a duct that has opened as its central in the nipple & that it will close again, I will keep you informed.

The piercing was migrating out, very close to the surface of the nipple & think that's how the hole appeared, I've taken it out & it closed overnight
