"I walked down Old Bond St this afternoon, the shops included Patek Phillipe, Bulgari, Hublot and Tiffanys. Non of your cheap and scruffy designer brand shops just luxery brand shops. I went into a pen shop the average fountain pen was £300. I then walked down Oxford St, well l tried, it was jammed and the shops seemed stuffed. It looks as if at both ends of the society's spectrum there are still people with money to burn. Is Britain broke?" No the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. You know that pen that was £300 it was made by someone on minimum wage, was packed by someone on minimum wage, was delivered to shop by someone on minimum wage . And Guess what sold by someone on minimum wage So the rich buy £300 pens The workers , steal them from screw fix, Argos and the bank The non workers , steal them from the job Centre Britains not broke, and I am sure that very few people this year will not be going without at xmas. It doesn't matter whether your rich or poor as long as you know someone loves you. And I don't care if you have nothing for xmas, but if your lonely , I will

"Although l believe in a welfare state and global responsibility l think it can be very easy to assume all wealth comes at the expense of the poor. In terms of foreign workers many of the jobs overseas create work when there is no work and therefore create an income in low or no income countries. If a person has the money to spend on expensive items that person is a given work to the foreign worker. In terms of the welfare state the lack of money in the welfare state is more political than caused by individual wealth creators and l don't count bankers or traders as wealth creators. My point was that there seems to be a lot of people with money to burn not only on the luxury end but also on Oxford St in Debenhams, topshop etc. " That's because you are in shops in the run up to Christmas, if you are looking for people with money to burn the best place to look is in shopping centres. You are basing your opinion on weighted evidence.

"No one living in this country knows what the true meaning of the word poor means.Go to a third world country and go off of the beaten track...then you will see what it means to be poor.A place with no free health care,no state benefits no education...people moan and groan about this country...yes there are people who have more money than others, always have and always will be...if it's that bad here..the door is open for people to leave and go live in a country like Germany...if the grass is greener..mmmm I wonder why thousands and thousands of people want to come and live here...roll up,roll up come and live in Briton and be poor...Get real folk " This is so true, we are one of the richest countries in the world, and we all want to be richer. But there are other parts of the world where things are really shit. We complain about governments and taxes and benefit claimants, but there are millions of people without functioning governments, without welfare, without rule of law, and as said above no free health care, limited education and then no access to jobs or employment to better yourself. Try living somewhere like Eastern Burma as a subsistence farmer, then have the Army turn up in your village one day. They'll burn your house down and plant landmines in your fields so you cant return, then they will take you and use you as forced labour, make you carry their equipment and supplies through the jungle, make you walk in the front of the column so if there are any landmines or booby traps, you'll be the one to lose a leg, not them. If you survive that, you might be then put to work building fences around other villages, so when the Army decide to come for them, they wont be able to escape. Or you can just sit on your bum and think of yourself as hard done by because someone else has more money than sense and spends £300 on a pen.

Everything that you have in life has to be earned either by hard work or in a few cases from inheritances from families who have being successfull and make the decision to pass the wealth from generation to generation . A lot of the goods to which you refer are possibly being purchased by foreign visitors . When the so called poor can afford Sky TV and lots of take away meals we know that UK is not broke .

"Mr and mrs average are still paying for last years xmas....and george osbornes austerity measures.....keep the rich wealthy make the poorest even poorer....hes a fuckin disgrace!!! Vote cinservative ,is a vote for the wealthy!!!" . I think a Conservative vote has nothing to do with wealth. It is a belief that you are responsible for your actions in life and that everything which you have has to be earned . Geoge Osbourne has done a great job if managing the economy and has ever abandoned some of his austerity measures due to the success of the economyin the last few months . Only a fool borrows money to fund Xmas .

Maybe we need to investigate why these people and homeless and why they rely handouts . Why do they not have other family members who are. prepared to help them.? Have they claimed housing benefit , if not , why not ?.

It would be comforting to believe that they are there because they choose not to do anything about it but the majority aren't.

You only have to look at the net migration figures . I think 450,000 came here last year and we have at least 10,000 so called asylum seekers . It can hardly be broke with all these people so anxious to live here . It is just a a shame that no one is prepared to tackle the enormous financial problems that all these new residents cause .

None have come here to claim benefits because that is not possible. 10,000 refugees are the only ones you can say came here for a better life, and i doubt they came here with a financial motive because refugees come here because their lives are in danger.

"and im still confused as to how someone homeless can claim housing benefit?..." Homeless means you haven't got a permenant residence. So living in a b&b or hostel you are classed as homeless, as well as living on the street. Only those with no residence at all wouldn't be able to claim housing benefits as they have no rent to pay.

"WARNING - Unpopular opinion It's interesting when people complain about Britain being broke when almost everyone I know who is on benefits has a Plasma TV, or a 13+ plate car. I see guys in the city on the dole but they will always have enough money for cider and . Parents earn so much on benefits that they would actually earn less working full/part time. So what do they do? Stay home and have more kids, thus continuing the cycle, end state; parents with 6 kids on benefits and living in a 5 bedroom house. Can anyone say 'welfare state'? Also even more unpopular, it's easy to villainise the rich and blame them however when someone has trained for 8-12 years to go into a specialty field only to be faced with progressive taxation to pay for someone else's benefits, you can imagine their frustration. " . I would not say yours is an unpopular opinion , it is what a lot of people think but are too scared to say it. Everything that you have in life has to be paid for , though those on welfare with loads of children and the latest plasma TV fail to appreciate that..

"it amazes me that the big coffee shop chains are opening in every town and are seemingly always busy - even in so called poor areas - also used to get quite annoyed with people getting their benefits and spending it all on fags and booze as they can go to local food bank to get free food to feed their kids - priorities are wrong in lots of cases" You know you need a voucher from social services or some other agency to go to a food bank and then you can only use it twice in six months right?
