If you have distinct shape, you're curvy. My fiancé is curvy for example.

If you have a gut hanging over and your back collects in chunky ripples, you're just fat and likely to be grossly overweight.

Oddly enough, I believe that this is a really important issue, and that in the absence of photographs, there needs to be more honesty. But also the choice of terms is confused. "Curvy" is the opposite of "slim": these are body morphologies, as is "large". "Athletic" implies tone and low BMI; the term "a few pounds extra" has meaning, as does "fabulous" (meaning high BMI?). Simplest would be if weight as well as height were a required input in the absence of photographs.

Possibly. I have a high BMI though. Yet people would be silly to call me fat. Overweight? 100%!!! I'm 21 stone. But fat? Nothing on here to describe me haha

I personally think there's so much bad stigma around the word fat! I am fat and it's not degrading, it's a fact! Some people like it and some don't, but whatever I classify myself isn't going to change my weight. What matters is that I like the size I am, making whatever you call me acceptable x

When i say it holds us back from meets i mean we get offers but im nor confident enough that they will be happy with me!

Why should there be an absence of photographs, that to me is the whole point of using a site like this! Curvy is a flattering term, large is not - surely that's a no-brainer?

In discussions I use the term 'thumping great girlie' anyway, bugger what anyone else thinks I should be called!!

I've met with some ladies who have described themselves on here as curvy, but in the flesh I would say they were large and met other woman who are the other way.......it's all up to the individual how they class themselves and what they feel comfortable with (in my humble opinion)

Not that long ago I was gym mad and pretty toned going most days and I'd go to zumba 4 times a week too all the muscle I built has become fat so im now fatter than I was before my arms are horrible. Moral of the story, be happy with your body no matter what size

A woman can be slim and curvy, so you're wrong on that account. Curvy indicates an hour glass figure at any size.

I'd be far more likely to lie about my weight than anything else because I weigh the same as a small rhino so it's quite embarrassing. I put fabulous as that felt right (and going by your definition it is, because my BMI is high).

But photos are the way forward, not trying to shoehorn all the different shapes and sizes out there into a few narrow categories. And if someone doesn't have photos for you to be able to work out what they look like, just give them a miss if it's something that's important to you.

I think it depends on your waist:hip ratio.

No matter what size, BMI index or weight you are, if your waist to hip ratio is less than 0.85, you should be curvy.

If your waist:hip ratio is more than 0.85, no matter if you're fat or thin, you're not that curvy.

Just how I look at it.

Well sorry I might as well desbribe myself as tall - it would be equally misrepresenting myself - or how about tall and skinny? Some women may like those characteristics but that does not mean I should feign having them!! If you are vastly overweight and your pics testify to this fact just say it like it is ffs..its not like it is going to put off the many man who are attracted to you and your figure. Otherwise IMHO you are deluding yourself and so are all the others who do the same!!

No, not 'vastly' but significantly yes and when your waist is clearly larger than your hips I do not think you can in anyway justifiably refer to yourself as 'curvy'

Ah but we don't have pics that accurately represent ourselves if we deliberately choose flattering pics. Apparently they are misrepresentation and we are deluding ourselves because we want to put nice pics and call ourselves curvy instead of fat.

my waist is 29" my hips are 38" how does that make my waist larger than my hips and thankyou because after losing 11 1/2stone everyone has told me not to lose anymore weight and thanks to one sentence you've undone all the good work. I'm 7lb over the recommended body weight for my height.

And if a women who is very slim (or some would say skinny - not myself I would hasten to add) and has narrow hios and small breasts were to refer to herself as curvy would that be alright?

People know and understand what words in our language mean for the most part it IS their maternal language after all.

My pics show quite clearly that I am NOT tall, is it all right therefore if I refer to myself as such? this example is no different!!

I know women who have had three or four children and do not suffer from 'mummy tummy' - it is largely a symptom of how much you over eat and allow yourself to put on far too much extra weight during pregnancy. The idea that you should eat for two (especially when you are probably already somewhat prone to eating too much) is a complete and utter fallacy and this habit leads too many examples of 'mummy tummy!

True and indeed anyone can make the judgement as to how much sustenance is required on a daily basis, but, if they get it wrong then they only have themselves to blame when they get fat or as many of them insist on seeing it 'curvy'..

I do not think that at all. I am simply being honest about the difference I see between fat women and curvy women.

surely what's fat and curvy comes down to personal preferences, it's like asking what's ugly and what's not, a guy who genuinely likes big women may see a size 16 as curvy where as guys who like slim women may see a size 16 as fat

surely at the end of the day it's down to what you like, if your not attracted to somebody because they are to fat/curvy don't meet them

"You my think your perfection personified however give me a fun big bloke any day over a guy with a good body and shit attitude.

I do not think that at all. I am simply being honest about the difference I see between fat women and curvy women.

I see no reason why this should instigate a character assassination since I have certainly not attached anyone personally her, simply questioned their perception of themselves as 'curvy' when they are quite clearly not!"

So why wouldn't you call a woman skinny if she was skinny because some women are underweight and it can cause significant problems. My sister had problems conceiving because she was underweight for example.

If you're gonna say it as you see it, be consistent.

In the same way that it would appear that calling a woman who is actually fat, fat is deemed offensive by many ...and similarly there are also grave health counter indications to being obese

Polar!! That's not true....... As a mum of 3 I can make a personal judgement .......absolutely wrong "

Wrong wrong wrong!

I have 4 babies 2 with a 12 month gap, this was amassive contributing factor to my mummg tummy actually!

Think her point was you are quite happy to insult overweight people by calling them fat...yet in your words.. "And if a women who is very slim (or some would say skinny - not myself I would hasten to add) "....so why wouldn't you call a slim woman skinny?

Just because a woman has a mummy tummy doesn't mean their not curvy we are what we describe ourselves! Just be honest and be yourselves

" I still got a mummy tummy for a few months till it returned to normal

So it's obvious that all women do get a mummy tummy then it's just wether it returns to normal afterwards, that's the issue

But you said you wouldn't call a woman skinny so aren't you just being a bit hypocritical then? If you think women should call themselves fat, then you should also be saying women should call themselves skinny.

"I call myself curvy don't care what others call me agreed

Well sorry I might as well desbribe myself as tall - it would be equally misrepresenting myself - or how about tall and skinny? Some women may like those characteristics but that does not mean I should feign having them!! If you are vastly overweight and your pics testify to this fact just say it like it is ffs..its not like it is going to put off the many man who are attracted to you and your figure. Otherwise IMHO you are deluding yourself and so are all the others who do the same!!you think I'm vastly overweight?

No, not 'vastly' but significantly yes and when your waist is clearly larger than your hips I do not think you can in anyway justifiably refer to yourself as 'curvy'

How rude!!!

Indeed many will see it as such. We should spend more time saying what we think and less time bull shiting because we are worried about offending people with fragile sensitivities! "

Why do you Always have to wade in on these threads? I think you have a big issue with womens weight and frankly an ugly attitude.

I'm sure your tummy has beautiful memories like mine does! I just thought if he was going to be so judgemental the least he could do is be constructive with his critism
