Photo advice wanted

I could really do with any advice/tips on taking some decent profile pics, never been one to take lot's of photo's but I realize the need to have a decent image that grabs some attention since it's usually the first thing that will attract people to view your profile.

I know i'm more Will Self than Will Smith but pretty sure I should be able to get a better picture of myself at least.
