Im a bit puzzled as to why people send a message but it has in brackets that they are no longer on the site? Why send a message that requires a reply if this is so?

Blocking is different to UNLOS, but I am sure you know that...

UNLOS means they have blocked everyone,including themselves!

no you don't get that message for a block ,it just says you are not able to view this profile etc and could be because you blocked them ,they blocks you or fab suspended their profile xx

It can be for any number of reasons really. They might like the idea of playing with a couple but then panic and think OMG what if they accept what will I do etc...

Near enough

UNLOS means exactly that. They have removed themselves from the site

If you were blocked then you would see a message when you click on their profile

Don't worry about it either way
