I hate turkey, and usually have a duck or a goose for Christmas.

I used to have a goose with my ex-hubby, and use the left-over meat and fat to make rillette (potted meat).

Now that I am on my own, I have a duck instead, and get 2 or 3 meals out of it: a leg and some breast meat for Christmas dinner, duck fried rice, and duck soup etc...

Duck is by far my favourite meat!

Didn't you go camping last year Pearl?

.

I went camping during the New Year weekend last year.

If the weather is good, as in very little wind, a bit warmer than now, no rain, then I'll go camping from 24 Dec until 28 Dec down in Dorset.

I'd say get a lovely fillet, depends how many of you there are, you can't beat chateau briand - gorgeous and a nice change from turkey, or what about a whole salmon poached in a fish kettle, simple but very tasty and great cold too. Z

Yes I thought I remembered something like that. I can think of nothing better than just getting away from everything and having some peace and quiet sometimes!

I think the reason people dont like turkey is they think its too dry.

But if cooked correctly it shouldnt be.

It should be moist and very tasty.

I also like doing my own baked ham but doing a big un is a waste unless you have a lot of mates

Yes you're right, done properly it's lovely, I did mine upside down a few times so the breast was underneath and it was gorgeous! Just too much now as there will be just 3 of us this year! Z

I always buy a Turkey Breast off of the bone, if you wrap it in streaky bacon it stays lovely and moist.

I love tone steak. I always add some garlic to it with steak house shake which you get from sainsburys. Sea salt and pepper. Leave for as long as possible and cook. I slow cook mine in over or fry on really low heat as like my meat very rare
