Next generation beauty...

I know im a little wiser in years now and i remember girls shall we say being less provocative..but i wonder how the new "online generation" will be affected with how women are seen online...not just the porn that is readily available..but the numerous "glam" shots heavily edited that show sometimes unreal beauty.

Has there been a bar set so high that they wont actually know "what" nevermind who they are looking for...

You're only 38!!

When I was a teenager we had top shelf magazines doing much the same as online stuff does now . Stories and pics which were something of a fantasy , and not real as such .

It is easier now to find such stuff online , but it's no more real than the stuff that was around in my day .

We all interact with other real people every day , college , uni , work etc.....

There's no sense of not knowing the difference now than ever before in my opinion .

Funny you should mention "glam shots" Johnny, I decided to take a picture of myself without any editing, filters etc because, I would like people to see the "real me"

Celeb culture has given people a free pass to do whatever the hell they want.

Take Miley Cyrus for example. What she wore a few days ago was about as close to naked as you're going to get and no one really gives a shit... It's literally the norm these days for celebs to be half naked and provocative and that's definitely influenced what kids are doing (and getting away with doing).

Social media such as Instagram is LITTERED with 15 year olds with hashtags like "DSL"... That stands for DICK SUCKING LIPS FFS

Most of the young adults i know only use the internet to arrange meeting up with their mates or buying drugs (yes publicly, they don't even care).

I think their not as stupid as we think really. They tend to only care about their mates and aren't pandering to the media trying to make them feel insecure. They know what's real coz they aren't on the internet 24/7. Dunno how kids online all the time would feel though? Most of my generation mocked and rejected the fake boobs and plastic culture that popped up during our teen years.

Got you now. I would imagine the youth of today see enough real people out in the big wide world to know that what they see online isn't real. Just like when they play online games, they know what is fantasy/fiction or realistic.

They know the duck lip shots are posed; no one walks around pouting like that in real life. I think the next generation are more likely to see things for what they are, because they contribute to the fakery. Unlike us,who could only look at the airbrushed pics. They can now take a pic and mess about with it to make themselves look better. They probably know that people in this media have had this treatment too.

I do think people are more body and looks conscious now because of how being beautiful is shown to be in the media.

Sorry it was a we in general, i actually excluded myself from that we even...

I more meant those trying to con people, for their own gain and not much else. I think it might make some people feel inadequate, but those people probably felt that way before seeing those images. Lonely people using the internet it probably gives them fake expectations too, dunno. Doesn't seem to affect the young adults i know.

I understand what you're saying. So many young women and men feel they need to look a certain way, hair extensions, a thigh gap, a six pack, eyebrows a certain shape etc and the tools are there as you say to edit any image that you publish of yourself. I do think that people in general have unrealistic expectations not just youngsters ....swamp donkeys, mingers and other terms are common on here for instance....and always have had its just even worse now because access to images is so much easier.

Great point...its EASIER than ever...top shelf magazines were giggles at and edited ect. But you can access some brutally graphic porn now anytime of the day anywhere you want...???

I guess it depends how much fakery they use in real life, fake tan/nails/boobs/hair extensions and so on

Most men prefer natural to over tweaked over tanned etc

There are lots of glam shots on fab and the rest of the internet, its whether you match that in the flesh that counts

I'm glad that I grew up without the Internet , Mobile phones etc ..

But then every generation when they get to a certain age feels that the world has " gone too far"

I reckon we're at a tipping point now in fakery. There's always been manipulation in photography but it's now so readily available and prevalent, has truly warped peoples idea of beauty an their sense of self.

Some have started to take baby steps but I hope for more advertisers and media to show a more realistic version of people. One can dream.....

It's not just all about the fakery though, beauty treatments such as hair colouring & waxing appear to start at a much younger age now. It is almost becoming almost the norm to be relatively hair free and have shaped brows, this applies to the younger generation of men as well as women.

Media images / how we're portrayed has played a part in this over the years.

People have always changed the way they look but nowadays more people can afford to. I'm glad corsets and tapeworms have gone out of fashion.

So glad I'm not a "High Street Honey"

I can think of nothing worse than having to get re-tweaked re-plucked re-tanned every few weeks

Friend of mine does this.

She wears a corset all the time, even in bed. Down to a 20 inch waist

It needs someone like her to do that. Helen Mirren only took on the l'Oreal job on the understanding that her pictures were enhanced in any way and she looks GREAT I would love to look that good at her age. We don't change our pictures on here in any way other than cropping, blurring face and water marking, if you can't face yourself who can you face?
