Committed an offence?

There is a furore on another site about someone who has admitted they committed an offence of a sexual nature many years ago. They have not re offended. Many want their blood and threats have been made.

I'm just glad I know who to watch out for, it's the ones that hide their past I'm more concerned with. Better the offender you know than the one you don't.

Thoughts?

Difficult one. The law states once they have finished their sentence then that's it. Some people believe however that a person who can commit a crime against another person (whatever it is) is likely to do it again.

If I found out that someone had been convicted of a sexual crime I would be unlikely to meet the,. But you're right - who knows what people on here have done. Do we really know the people we're meeting?

Exactly my thoughts. This person has been vilified and is now in a very unsafe position, I honestly think they may face danger from minds that can't think beyond the crime.

When you consider one in three women have been victims of sexual assault, we must meet more than a few of the offenders on here.

Safety should be high on everyone's list of requirements when meeting people you don't know and potentially being in a vulnerable position. I've been a txt pal for a lady who got a lift from a fellow fabber she hadn't met and texted me his car details and kept texting me to an agreed convo until she was ok with the journey.

Dangerous territory there. Whilst it's prudent to keep yourself safe at all times, it's not fair to assume that anybody on here is an offender. Though statistically you have a point. Argh minefield this.

Wouldn't you worry more about the hidden offences? The amount of meets I've had would suggest that at least a couple may have committed an offence against another human. Violence, rape, harassment for example.

I think after reading some of the posts on certain subjects on the forums that I'd be more worried meeting those who have shown to have very violent vigilante stances

It's a very difficult situation,I applaud the honesty that gives me the chance to make my own decision but the reality is that not everyone is so candid about their pasts,we just have to do what we've always done when we try to keep ourself safe and use our instinct

I'm not going to assume the worst of everyone or I'd never meet anyone ever again

Surprising how many people thing a sex crime of the past must mean the perpetrator is dangerous.

Have we forgotten that not so long ago being gay was a sex crime or rather sex acts between two men was?

Obviously we do not know what crime was being referred to but not all sex crimes of the past are sex crimes today and not all sex crimes today were considered sex crimes in the past.

The law changes over time.

If someone was convicted of something in the past that is no longer considered a crime, I hardly think anyone would be making a fuss about it now.

Not knowing what the crime was we can't comment on it

But have to ask why he admitted to it and what context it was mentioned in

If a crime is spent surely that's it

He's paid his dues to society

The fact he was caught and convicted I'd assume he is less likely to ever commit an offence again for fear of going backwards in life

It is a man.

The exact details don't matter at all, I was trying to gauge people's opinion on how they feel about knowing someone has had a conviction for a crime against a person.

As I've always stated, I'd be very happy to know a neighbour was a paedophile, at least we all know where we stand then.

A 21 year old neighbours son lets call him Jack is on the sex offenders regester

At his 17 birthday party he had d*unk sex with his 15 girlfriend lets call her Jill her dad walked in smacked him called the old bill and he was nicked for child abuse got 3mnts and stuck on the regester for life yes for life

In Nov this year the I'm djing at Jack and Jill wedding

Something you need to know more before you can judge
