Tattoos or no tattoos?

Are people still being judged by the ink they have? Do women find tatts a turn on or a no no?

I think people are judged for them.

I prefer men without. I sort of regret mine but I like some of them. And some make me laugh to look at.

I don't really care if someone has them or not. Ink doesn't change a person's personality.

If people want to judge me on mine then it says more about them than it does me.

Depends if the tattoos you have are swastikas or gaping vaginas.

I like them so long they are good quality

The right tattoos on the right guy is very sexy but they can be a turn off too, I've seen loads of naff quality ones and guys who have loads of small shitty ones down their arm and call it a sleeve when it's clearly just a bunch of small crap tattoos squished together

I've had a few negative comments about mine never on here because they are on show, well most are not all, so if people don't like them they don't mail me but in real life I've had a few

For a meet on fab, tattoos usually neither turn me on nor put me off. If the person is otherwise attractive, the tattoos generally don't matter. Having said that, there are a few tattoos that do kinda lessen someone's attractiveness to me, like face tattoos. But it is really uncommon for it to happen.

Well there is that I suppose.

But normal person tattoos don't bother me in the slightest.

I find tattoos on women awful. I don't really mind them on guys as long as they not covered. This craze over the last few years with younger people making themselves look like they on death row is horrid....sorry. Although i am looking to start training for tattoo removal and invest in a machine.

Every one is entitled to their opinion, I can't see why any one would want to get rid of their tattoos, I don't think it's a fad either they've been around for hundreds of years, my father is ex army and 63 and still getting the odd tattoo.

I know many people who are trying to alter them or regret them after just 5 years.

I grew up in a rough part of tyneside and lots of people i knew back then had spiders, etc on the neck and hands. But they did live in durham prison most of their lives. I'm so glad i didnt get any back then when i was 18-20, because i'm a totally different person to what i am now and have the memories of that time without having them permanently marked on me for the world to see. But that said everyone to their own and i wouldn't discriminate against anyone for having them. I just don't really get why someone wants to have art permanently marked on them.

I have one small tattoo on my R shoulder blade. It was for me, it's a personal thing. I know I will never regret that or want it removed.

I have several female friends with large tattoos which are basically artworks. Well thought out, well sited, well executed. Believe me not a fad and both those ladies look fantastic with them.

I know guys with tattoos that look great too. My personal preference is not for very heavily inked folk but that's only a personal preference.

From my job I've seen people from all ages and stages of life with tattoos, all classes and levels of education.

Some look great and yes some look naff- especially the clichéd got this whilst pissed and it's spelt wrong

It would however be a dull old world if we were all the same and I think lazy stereotypes or prejudices are dangerous.

I love tattoos on either sex&will often look if someone walks by with ink on show.I only have 5&3 quarters but saving up to get the rest of one finished.

I've never had anybody say no because of them but if that happens, then it's that persons entitlement not to like them&gan find someone with unused canvas.

We both appreciate good tattoos, people can look good with or without them though so it's not really a major consideration for us to be honest.

The 'worst' comment that has been made to either of us was about Neil's upper arm, which was along the lines of 'I don't like tattoos, but that really is very good.'

Everyone to their own choice my friend but we just look at these tattoo threads as a "hey look at my big tattoos and profile"all very shop window stuff.....have you ever seen a non tattood person wittering on about fresh clean skin and no tatts instead of the "my tattoos are a description of my life " or"my tattoos have real meaning" funniest ones are the kids names on their arms!! or wrists (obviously incase they forget what they are called whilst trying to remember their next appointment at the ink shop)

So true so so true. Those people really make me laugh (and cringe at the same time) with their deep meaningful stories of their "mums aunties sisters daughters best friends pet cat" who they had tattooed or their butterfly tattoo they got when they "grew up and matured". The trend of late is the pocket watch tattoo... I'd rather have a real watch so I can tell the actual time.

(Good post by the way )

That statement seems a bit ironic on FAB. You put up pics and a profile of yourself 'in the shop window', so to say, to get what you want so are surely saying, hey look at me, but at the same time think those with tattoos are lesser than you?

You also associate tattoos with a lack of intelligence, very narrow minded?

Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion and I'm sure we all have our reasons and justifications for our choices, but let's try and be civil and not attack or belittle others for theirs?

I guess I must be pretty dumb as one of my tattoos is my wedding ring, probably in your opinion to remind me that I'm married? I actually had it done as I've never been comfortable wearing jewelry, so as a mark of respect wore my recently deceased fathers wedding ring for the wedding ceremony. Unfortunately I misplaced it for a while on the evening but fortunately found it. After our honeymoon I got the tattoo to show my commitment and respect for my wife and my father and put the actual ring away for safe keeping as I would have been devestated to loose it permanently, but I guess that's not acceptable reasoning?

I have tattoos that are personal and never on show and I edit my pics to blur them out if I have to.

My biggest piece is the top of my back and running down my spine (no I don't wear backless clothes to show it off) of a piece of jewellery I was gifted from my dad the last Christmas before he died.

I misplace things or my kids break my belongings and that's my way of keeping a piece of my dad with me.

I don't like trend tatts that famous people have and others follow.

Better to be an individual

I like tattoos on guys, if they are good tattoos.

But at work I'm kinda discriminated due to my tattoos on my feet (no skirt or 3 quarter length trousers) but no issues with the ones on my wrists .

I wrote this post to see people's points of views, not for people to throw insults and be quite negative towards others, whether they be a trend, personal or an expression. I can hide all my tattoos but have no problem and have many friends including guys in their 60's with visible tattoos. So all the answers I was looking for are right here on the post, Yes some people judge, some people find them sexy some don't, so yes to all of the above. Good debate people's

Can you please point out where we have thrown insults?...were just pointing out everyone is an individual whereas your aiming your posts at either mankind or specifically at the female population of fab....as if they are all going to be the same?

A simple yes or no and a little description of why would of been suffice without going into the whole " look at me", "shop window" "forgetting kids names" " forgetting next ink app" which I found slightly insulting towards others who choose to do that.

"Everyone to their own choice my friend but we just look at these tattoo threads as a "hey look at my big tattoos and profile"all very shop window stuff.....have you ever seen a non tattood person wittering on about fresh clean skin and no tatts instead of the "my tattoos are a description of my life " or"my tattoos have real meaning" funniest ones are the kids names on their arms!! or wrists (obviously incase they forget what they are called whilst trying to remember their next appointment at the ink shop)

After our honeymoon I got the tattoo to show my commitment and respect for my wife and my father and put the actual ring away for safe keeping as I would have been devestated to loose it permanently, but I guess that's not acceptable reasoning?"

This says it all and I'm guessing wasn't aimed at myself

I started getting tattooed at 18 and have had some done every year since.

Tattooing has advanced massively since the days of sailor tattoos on forearms.

If people want to worry about about what I have on my skin then that's their problem.

"I don't really care if someone has them or not. Ink doesn't change a person's personality.

If people want to judge me on mine then it says more about them than it does me."

I am fortunate not to have had any negative reactions to my tattoos, and lots of positive ones.

Or maybe I'm just oblivious

For those who seem to believe a large amount of ink equals low intelligence ... They should meet the chap who did my first ones. He is one of the most intelligent and articulate people I've had the pleasure to spend time with.

If it's your first and you have changed your mind that often... I would carry the design around for several months before committing to the permanency of a tattoo.

However, if you are sure... Go for it

Ha ha ha ha ha and your not insulting? "Coloured in" I am 3/4 of the way through a very detailed new age Japanese half body suit! My choice, my body! Where did I say ANYTHING like that in my original post!! I asked if people were still being judged and if ladies found it a turn on or off ( equally! Your opinion and the way you word things repulse me! You've had your vile over opinionated say so can you please refrain from commenting any more and let others have there say please (because I'm polite)

Completely agree with the above and believe it is all down to personal taste, it would be a very boring world if we all made the same choices and liked the same things.

The only reason for our earlier comments was the apparent assumption that people with tattoos are not very bright and were somehow trying to show off and grab attention more than those without.

Of course everyone has different opinions and we are all entitled to them, 'inked' or not.

Play nice everyone.

Not everyone likes tattoos be a bit boring if we all liked the same thing.

You obviously have a serious dislike of tattoos, just wondering if you would avoid people with tattoos on a day to day basis away from fab?

Not at all, that would alienate family and friends alike and its only full torso and sleeves etc which make you look multi coloured were on about,no one said those with tattoos were unintelligent but if you ask all women on the forum as the op did then your going to get such diverse responses,What is really annoying about these threads is the ""story" behind the ink comments which we raised and low and behold a tattood guy agreed with, some do see it as are but I just see it as desecration of the human body...Some of our friends are tattood

I understand what you're saying, I've got a full sleeve, there's aspects of it which mean a great deal to me - two roses in rememberence of my grandparents for example.

Other parts I just like the theme but have tied it into some that I feel quite strongly about - the gambling parts on my lower arm.

Personally I'm not a fan of piercings, the thought of having one almost makes me cringe.

Each to their own as weve said , We have lost lots of friends and family over the years but never felt compelled to signify the loss with ink but then tattoos are not our thing. Our remarks though sounding quite crass to some were more aimed at the first post which in reality was look at my tatts girls are they worth a shag but of course wrote in a different or slightly different context x

Bad tattoos look bad. Good tattoos done to suit the person and their tastes look awesome.

Poorly cared for tattoos look naff later on in life but when a tattoo has been well looked after, they look great for life!

Beards, piercings and tattoos are my favourite combo

I'm the same, I get comments off both men and women on mine, I chose an artist who specialises in what I wanted and we planned them over a long period of time, I must admit the one I had done recently on my leg was on a wim as I'd always wanted a well know guest artist to tattoo me. He designed the one off piece for me. Lots of comments on that too.

I say buy a piece of nice art you like and is personal to you....have it made even.

You can keep it admire it and sell it when you change your opinion or your taste changes.

you don't have to regret go through a huge expense and months or years of invasive laser surgery.

It would cost me a fortune my left arm has a half sleeve that goes over my shoulder and up my neck there's about 30 hours work in that piece alone as its Maori so all outline, my other arm which is just a half sleeve had about 20 house work, my leg was about 20 hours , my back was the quickest that only took 8 hours, I'd need to remortgage the house so I'm stuck with them

I have just finished a BSc(Hons) in mental health care, I've slogged my guts out for three years while working full time and being a single mum so get that digree because I really want to get into mental health care, I recently had a job interview and was told they don't employ people with visable tattoos and I can't cover the one that goes up my neck, so because of that I lost my dream job and to say I was gutted does not even come close

"I find tattoos on women awful. I don't really mind them on guys as long as they not covered. This craze over the last few years with younger people making themselves look like they on death row is horrid....sorry. Although i am looking to start training for tattoo removal and invest in a machine.

Not sure if you're serious but it's probably a good idea. I know quite a few people that would get theirs removed if they could.

I would

I've never hidden the fact I wish I had never had mine and ifmi could go back in time I'd have never have had them

I have far to much to remove though

Aw that's a shame! Even if you were get them lazered off the would leave a slight scar.

you would never be able to realistically get a huge sleeve removed. Not under current tech. It would be highly costly and years of work at least.

There is a new one out and its five times more effective than the ones out just now, mine are going to the grave with me!! Love them all!

I like mine, I spent a long time designing them with my tattooist getting them right, what I don't like is peoples attitude towards me

That's discrimination in my eyes, but unfortunately positions with in the public sector have the kind of company policies, can you not just get the visible parts lazered?"

Top chefs.....in the 70s 80s and 90s it was impossible to get a top chefs job with visable tattoos also.its not discrimination its obviously the image they portray

You should ask the people who will not employ people who have visible tattoos....maybe they think they are too classy?...who knows

Are people still being judged by the ink they have? Do women find tatts a turn on or a no no? "

Neither. I have a couple of tattoos and hubby has a few also. On others they don't turn me on our off.

Like kids names and things that remind you of relatives who have passed away?

Immense respect for those tattoo's, but that's not what I want on my body because if I lose my memories due to Alzheimer's, dementia or something, it would freak me out to see names of people I don't know on my body, but a piece of art, I reckon I would look at it and be soothed

Why would anyone feel the need to get scarred with their childrens names etched on their body ...incase they forget?,my gran passed away 20 years ago yet i never felt the need to get a tattoo out of respect for her...if i said that in a conversation with friends they would assume i was some sort of loon

That's genuinely not funny, first off, I don't appreciate jokes about family members demise, and second, you didn't read what I actually said about not wanting those tattoos for a certain reason, so it's just all in all bad taste

To be honest clubcouple you're entitled to your opinion but to be taking the piss about remembrance is quite pathetic and distasteful.

You might as well be saying why would you keep pictures of your kids in the house because you already know what they look like.

Voice your opinions by all means but to belittle tattoos for dead relatives really does say a lot.

"Whilst i respect your reasons for the ink i think scarring yourself for life is a big price to pay,Each to their own and all that x "

Mine are scars that I have chosen, and that distinction is important to me, as I have some very big scars that I didn't choose.

At the end of the day, a body is just a vessel anyway - might as well doodle on it if it makes you happy.

We like tattoos and have several ourselves, they are all in places where we can choose to show or cover depending on how we feel. I've just recently had quite a large one from my shoulder to my knee and it took me about a year to decide on it so it wasn't on a whim.

We wouldn't be put off by people who have got tattoos either.

What does put us off people is when people can't see further than the end of their own nose and try to belittle people for having a tattoo that is meaningful to them! If it makes people feel good to have a name or a rememberance tattoo then so what? I'm sure they don't really give a shit what others think!

"Love tats on a woman and in general... prefer them when they actually mean something other than "it's pretty" though. So like a liverbird on a lasses shoulder means she supports liverpool?

No... it means she has no taste lol

Seriously though, you know what i meant

Like kids names and things that remind you of relatives who have passed away?

Immense respect for those tattoo's, but that's not what I want on my body because if I lose my memories due to Alzheimer's, dementia or something, it would freak me out to see names of people I don't know on my body, but a piece of art, I reckon I would look at it and be soothedSon i have some bad news...your grans died but on the upside ive booked you in at the tattoo shop for an hour wednesday for a rememberance tattoo

Do you not like tattoos clbcouple? We hate the crap that people come out with in all seriousness...its just pictures etched on your skin,go back to your original post, did you want people just to say yes and swoon at your pic?.....tatts have a meaning everyone cries but they dont,a tribal...big black marks all over your arms, which tribe?....dunno.We have a view , were putting it across like you asked, were the only people your cross examining "

Swooning at my picture!! Get a grip! People are generally attracted to my cheeky happy sense of humour, my not so bad looks and my kind personality. Your making far too many underhanded, hurtful and personal comments on here, you made your point in the first couple of comments, so not sure why your still repeating the same old boring outspoken unjust comments, yawn!! Go crack a smile and make your arse jealous
