How long do you wait?

If you invite someone to yours for a get together and you can see that they've read the message but haven't replied either yes or no, how long is acceptable to wait before assuming it's a 'no' and ask someone else?

Why wait, arrange with someone else and you're not left hanging. If the other person then replies arrange for another time.

I'd give it a day 24 hours they may need to get childcare or a new outfit together or even some waxing done !!

Because it seems rude to ask someone over and if they do eventually say yes to say well actually can we do it another time.

If its a couple the 1 who read the message may be waiting to show their partner...

We usually wait a day or two x

maybe it could be construed as rude not to reply promptly, and leave people wondering?

If time is important, setting a deadline in your email might be a solution - such as "if you don't get back in x number of hours we will assume it's a no for tomorrow".

This. They may need to speak to the other person, figure out life stuff first. Then they will reply when they have discussed.

It would have been nice if they replied so at least you know this instead of you being left hanging though.

I would agree with you that it would be rather rude. Especially if the person you do meet leaves a verification for you.

In answer to your question. I suppose it depends on how much notice you gave them?

But even so a reply of yes please, but I need to arrange child care etc, or a no thanks should be forthcoming. If, after a couple of days and getting closer to the proposed, day, with no reply I would assume they are probably not interested.

Just message again after 5 minutes and say you haven't got all day so make your mind up
