There is a lot of talk about forum cliques, but I'm never sure if we are in yet or not. So to find out whos in or not, tell the person above if they are in the forum clique and on the inside pissing out, or on the outside pissing in

I think there are cliques for different types of posts. When I started posting on here I thought you guys were as you posted more then. I would say you are comfortable on the forums but don't follow the crowd, so one foot in and one foot out .... you are always welcoming and your posts seem measured and thoughtful. I don't mean to sound like a sycophant ....

(Seriously though, I just don't give a hoot. I bounce back in every so often and some people I know are still here but there are always new faces and people I can't remember. I just treat everyone how I'd expect them to treat me, sometimes I'm disappointed but I've been around long enough to ignore the meanies. Then I stop escaping reality and go back and put my big girl pants on and get on with real life.

Cliques have been around forever and they're not anything special, you don't have to be special to be in one, you just need to join in and stop thinking about it being some sort of impenetrable group.)

Define the clique as a positive thing: a group of very random and disparate individuals who through a common love of deviance, whimsy and cutting sarcasm have found some others to talk to and share things with which couldn't easily be shared elsewhere.

never knew there was a "forum clique" thought it was members posting _iews, comments and topics of interest so anyone and everyone could put their opinion. Like the chatrooms people get to know people and those that are like minded or on the same wavelength tend to move in the same circle, life on fab is like life in the vanilla world. If you use the forum you are in if you don't you are out or is that oversimplification? Keep the post coming

What we have found out there's certain one,s that are very pc and jump on any thing if it, could be racist and very judgmental try and turn the rest against you the leave the thread they block you so you can not reply in private and ask then what there problem is and try to get you arguing on the thread they seem to get off on it The threads are for fun and treated that way and not to fall out with any one

I did have an idea of a clique before you replied though, nothing wrong with them just they often turn topics into their personal chatrooms so you can tell they all know each other well.

It's nice to see a bit of forum flirting and I'm all for that but when I get in a thread and there are two people with massive posts going back and forward I'm way to lazy to try and decipher who said what. I like reading opinions on things and sometimes it detracts from the topic so I give up and move to the next one.

I post on things dear to my heart - I question people just out of interest, and I would hope to be able to engage in a public debate. I also block people I think might PM me or who I see I do not share any interests with vis a vis meeting or I find their _iews really not comparable with mine. The former because I had a whole load of private messages about gushing being pies and I did not like that intrusion in my private messages. To an extent, debate in a public forum has some sense of distance/safely where people can judge for themselves, and private messages seem more personal - I don't want a debate there. If I do reply in private to a forum posts, its never to ask what their problem is - usually to find out more, as I am interested, or offer support or reassurance that I was not getting at 'them' - never do get at anyone. I know I have been accused of trying to stir things up on threads, but never, ever would I be trying to turn anyone or all against anyone or all - I would never assume that you could, nor would I want to - I like people to think for themselves and really and truly enjoy the debate as fun and makes me think about my own _iew and perspective sometimes. I am a card carrying member of the PC brigade just because of life circumstances --

Exactly like that! We're still on topic though... being all cliquey.

I like what _awandorder said about support though. I sometimes send random private messages if someone said something funny and made me laugh or if I'm interested in what they said or maybe I have some advice that doesn't necessarily need to be read by everyone. If I read a cool profile then I tend to send a message saying that too. It's doesn't always mean that I'm interested in them sexually, I just think it's nice to be nice and to give credit when it's due. I do that to people in the street too though... I remember a compliment from a girl in the supermarket about my shoes and it really made my day. I like that sort of feel good stuff so I pay it forward.

In turn I can't be arsed with the bitter posts from the defensive sorts who aren't getting enough attention in their life and are pretty much on the verge of throwing their toys out of the pram at the drop of a hat. I'm not all pink and fluffy.

I'm good with my mouth chatting but typing's hard work for me. I spell everything wrong and don't always press the key hard enough so i have to go back and correct everything once spellcheck shows me.

We're not in a clique? Whenever I (Mrs) see these posts, I always wonder who people are referring to and if different posters can identify a set group of people they consider to be in said clique.

I just post on any thread that interests me really. Interested to know if anyone thinks we're in a clique though ?

I am out ... because I say what I think and I know I am out because I rarely have a white knight coming to rescue me (which is fine as I prefer black knights).I like a good debate, but prefer to keep it to the forums. Guilty of blocking people who I think will be likely to message me privately as I have had some abuse in the past by pm (on my single fem profile) and its not nice, so I do try to preempt this. Don't assume if you are blocked it is because someone is a trouble maker, maybe they don't want it to become personal ....

I agree with this totally People that PM to ask 'what your problem is' in response to forum posts tend to ask in a way that would get them banned on the forums.

I say what I think in public and will happily argue my _iewpoiny, that's not bullying. Send abusive or aggressive PM's, I'm not so sure

Plenty do. But it's lost on me as to why? It's incredibly paranoid to think that there is some massive clique acting together against certain people and it;s incredibly needy to want to behave to a clique that doesn't exist in order to satisfy your own need to belong and be accepted

There's no clique. People come and go. At any one time a group of people build up a rapport, and a cadence which is difficult to interrupt. It's not a clique, just a bunch of people chatting and getting along.

What constitutes an invisible but visible team, then?

I honestly never understood the clique argument. There are people who chat a lot and who recognize each other, yes. But I don't think that's the same as a clique (with all of its negative connotations and adolescent implications).

People who get on and have associated with each other in real life run the risk of being called a clique on here. Which is a little misguided.

If people go to a club sometimes and see a group of friends all talking together then that can be construed as cliquey. When it's just essentially a group of friends enjoying a night out.

However something amusing about the BDSM snobs and the white knights tripping over each other in a desperate attempt to appear "right on" is quite funny on here.

hey I'm not a mean person and I'm not intentionally taking the piss, just having a laugh a couple of subjects that are brought up by others regularly I do tend to latch onto especially the clubs one but still I'm only joking with my comments ,some obviously read them in a negative way because it doesn't suit their purpose but just trying to bring comedy value hugs

People know each other on the forums either being on the forums for a length of time or meeting in person.

The only negativity I've seen to new me members is if they put whiney or controversial posts up. Plenty of newbies come along have fun and join in, maybe it's how people interact with each other.

I'm one of the oldest forum members so that just makes me the wise old owl people who are popular today soon get forgotten about when they stop posting.

I just day what I think if I'm in a clique so be it, if I'm not so be it I'm unlikely to change

Ok a definition of a clique lifted from Wiki (ok not necessarily the best definition) is:

In the social sciences, a clique (CanE, UK /'kli?k/ or US /'kl?k/) is a group of people who interact with each other more regularly and intensely than others in the same setting.

In my opinion there are an number of different cliques in here - I accept I am part of some of them too. A lot are very visible and obvious, some less so.

As others have said its natural that friends / acquaintances will gravitate towards each other - it's human nature. Cliques do not need to be a bad thing - they become destructive when others (outside the clique) are excluded or treated less favourably because of it.

It always amuses me when people passionately deny there are any cliques in here (usually those in the most visible cliques) but by the textbook definition of the word they exist pretty much everywhere so here is no exception!
