Vanilla means different things to different people but generally it's used to describe people who dont swing or indulge in the kinkier aspects of sex. Soft swing also means different things to people but can mean anything up to but not including penetration. Etc is short for et cetera

I believe he wanted to know what "et al" meant, not "etc"....so et al is short for et alii

etc is casual useage to avoid writing a long list.

et al is the more formal version.

Et al comes from the Latin 'et alia' which means 'and the others'.

Etc comes from the Latin 'et cetera' which means 'and so on'.
