Starting a club?

Just day-dreaming about a career change, and idly wondered what sort of hoops you have to dance through to start a swingers club up?

Presumably, after finding suitable premises (not too tricky in our area) you'd need planning permission... what 'usage' does this come under?

Any thoughts, reflections or real life experiences?

I imagine it'd be a minefield of registrations, licences, certificates, rules and regs, insurances, complaining neighbours, campaigning religious nuts, pain-in-the-ass-customers, screening, cleaning, mopping and slopping and not a lot in the way of playing as it'd now be 'work'.

It really is a nightmare. New regs came through in April. An adult club now comes under the same rules as lap dancng clubs and sex shops, the reason why the new rules were introduced.

Basically new premises cannot be within 500met res of residential property. Then should you be successful in jumping through all the hoops required, any complaint received from premises within that 500 metre radius, may result in the premises being closed. You do not have the right to object to the closure.

So you sink thousands of pounds into your club and open it up. Day 2 somebody complains and you get closed down with no way of recouping your money. It really is a minefield nowadays.

sounds more like a nightmare than a dream then!

What about simply hosting 'parties' at a guest house or hotel like say Buddies in Blackpool?

SCORES of lap-dancing clubs face closure under tough new rules unveiled today.

Town halls will be handed powers to regulate the venues - and BAN new ones from opening near schools and close to homes.

From April 6, existing clubs will be classed as "sexual entertainment venues" - and will have to apply for a new licence inside a year or be shut.

Currently they face the same rules as bars and cafes, meaning they can be shut only if they attract crime, nuisance or public danger.

The Home Office is acting following a 12-week consultation. Minister Alan Campbell added: "Many people have told us they don't want a lap-dancing club in their neighbourhood."

Chris White, chairman of the Local Government Association, said: "It's a victory for common-sense."

Lap-dance club numbers have doubled to 300 since 2004. Owners said the rule changes would mean job losses.

Occasional strip shows in pubs will not face restrictions.

well Chams is licenced only as a men only private club but they seem to swing it, would be good to have a few more clubsxx

Biggest problem after setting up your club is getting people to come to it. Club would have to run at a loss for a couple of years in order to get itself established.

We know a club we both love and it really is well set up but has trouble bringing in a good number of people.

Annual tax fee for a sex related business is £50,000 over and above the normal council rates and other taxes ie it is in addition to all other costs

Public indemnity insurance

Fire inspections

Health and Safety certificate

If you serve food it's a nightmare of H&S

If you have a wet area there are daily and 2 hourly checks on the jacuzzi/showers etc with records to be kept for inspection and samples of water checked every 2 hours and sent for analysis once a month to a laboratory.

Parking is the biggest reason councils use to refuse planning permission or change of usage from one type of business to another.

Clubs are private members clubs so exempt some laws like some of the rules for disabled access but liable to other rules such as every person on the premises must be a paid member of staff of paid member with thier personal details held on record

Quite simply it's a minefield and having worked in two clubs and managed a hotel for swingers in Switzerland if I won a 100 million on the lottery tomorrow the last thing I would do is open a club

I think your wrong

Chameleons is a Private Members Health club whilst it's sister club the Greenhouse is a Men Only Private members Sauna

Im always saying that Id love to work in Chameleons cos I could wear a variety of unusual outfits each night and have a fab time chatting to all the customers etc etc. In reality its probably very very hard work, lets face it the hours are unusually long!

12 hour shifts some days and no breaks the nearest you get to a break is a quick ciggie in the alleyway.

But for socialising, meeting new people, having a chat with friends it's the best job in the world.

Men starting there are ok cos they get to work a week in hand

And what pisses me off is the members who dont look after the clubs i.e wet towels all over the place not hanging their robes up after they been for a fag over flowing ashtrays or the worst finding used condoms onthe floor. Have respect you would'nt do these things at home so dont do it at the clubs thanks rant over.

most businesses take at least two years to get going properly in any case.

yeah, I agree it would probs end up taking the glam out of the whole thing. Don't fancy that. I love my fun.
