I was discussing this earlier with a friend, how open were your parents about sex, etc. My mother wasnt grew up strict in Jamaica on coming to UK she relaxed more. But sex was taboo subject... ow im open about it to my girls, not sure how I would cope with a boy asking though.

My parents were Jamaicans: sex totally taboo. When I started my period I was handed a pack of Dr Whites and told "this means you can't sleep with boys!"

I was embarrassed to tell my parents I was pregnant, as they'd know what I was doing...and I was a married woman!

My children have always been able to ask me anything. I answered questions in an "age appropriate" way. My girls are 24, 28 and 32, my eldest about to be a mum herself, but I don't talk about sex with them as it's not a conversation any of us think appropriate. Nothing to do with taboos, just not the kind of table talk we would have.

They didn't make us rebel: they made us frightened of our own shadows. Add to that they were religious fanatics.

I began rebelling at the grand age of 43.

I have 2 boys & am very open about sex with them. I like to think they can ask me anything as I know they'd struggle talking to their dad.

My eldest had a sex education session last week on STI/STDs & he came home saying he knew most of it already but got to see some disgusting photos!!!! So guess what he had to google for me!!

In your bed

Very easy to have a go at parents but I imagine they got less details from there parents.

There is no manual and no perfect method.

I had no desire to talk about sex with my parents.

It was fun to explore sex with my partner rather than have a manual handed down by family.

I'm self taught!

My parents never spoken to me about sex growing up, and if I dare raise the subject I think my mum would have belted me around the ear!!

Thank god for 80,s Porn mags and the invention of pirate Betamax Dutch Porn videos is all I can say!!

A really good book 'what is happening to me? (Different version available for boys and girls from usborne press on a well know book selling site). Invaluable. Get a copy. Give it too them. Invite to come and ask questions if needed. A few weeks later when driving or washing the dishes start the convo about the book. 'So what did you think? ' The lack of pressure and eye contact will make it easier for them to open up. Have a laugh about it. Sex is supposed to be funny. Take the pressure off but get the facts across.

At least your jamaican parents were working off some moral code if we would agree with them or not

My parents never talked about sex with us yet thought nothing of screaming and fighting in front of us about their numerous affairs and resulting illegitimate children

Shropshire/Midlands

Sex education from my parents were totally nonexistent. My father, whom I only saw at mealtimes, didn't say anything except how disgusting some books my mother bought for me, which were written especially for teenages to understand how the body changes. My mother, had some hibitions regarding sex and would say how dirty it was. On the other hand though, she would tell dirty jokes and had a boyfriend during the time my parents were separated for 6 months. They were children of the 40's and 50's, so I guess it was more swept under the carpet.

It was my friend passing around 'the joy of sex' at school when I was 13, that I knew what it was all about. Sex education at school happened when I was 14 and taught by the R.E teacher in a all girl Catholic school. Oh, how embarrassed he was!

I now have 2 boys (21 and 15). They've never been interested in discussing sex, but I wouldn't be too embarrassed if they ever asked. I guessed the older would be embarrassed now that he's an adult to speak to his mum, and the young one...well having autism it's not something easy to explain, as certain words upset him, but he does know through sex education from school.
