Hi

We are about to invest in a sex swing. We are planning on installing it in our converted garage. Hubby is planning to install it straight into the joists. Is this OK?

I might be tempted to reinforce the beam. Being a garage it will have considerably lower load specifications than Your main house. Also what sort of vintage is the garage? Older garages would be stronger unless you have had rotten wood Problems, modern garages have very thin lattice frames designed to be loaded from above supporting the roof tiles. Now loaded from underneath, my garage is made of 2" x 3" wood section and I get it to creak suspiciously with only 100kg suspended load, add some enthusiastic side loading and I would be worried about eating concrete.

I stuck mine through the joist in the bedroom ceiling using a 8 inch bolt, works a treat

Link doesn't seem to work! U say converted garage. Is that converted into a room? Is there a room above it. If so there will be a decent floor due to loadings n fire protection. Bit ur lip n talk to ur structural engineer which is far less than embarrassing than fire brigade cutting u out of collapsed house lol

Been reading. We are gonna run another piece of wood across the joists and then hang the swing from that.

I would get a professional to do it. I wouldn't want to land on my back if it broke

Although a swing is fun, we've had our 4 years now its been used twice. I couldn't use it on a meet as your so on display. Ours is a little awkward as you you have get the right height set before and if your off you have to reset and remount: still great fun just swinging about in your bedroom. Hope you enjoy yours.
