Bisexuality running in families

Hull but travel regularly

I've had a chat with my cousins tonight and it appears that bisexuality runs very strongly in my family, at least 75% of the girls admit to being bi on my dads side of the family. Has anyone else found this? X

No but I suppose it makes sense if sexual inclination is said to be genetic.

Just as an addition, I remember Richard Dawkins once sharing an explanation he'd heard for the existence of homosexuals (and bisexuals). Basically, it was said that during our primitive days, men would typically go hunting and leave the women alone at the settlement, unfortunately this left the ladies vulnerable to attack whilst the men were away. It is thought that homosexuals remedied this by providing the strength of a man, whilst having no sexual interest in the women, thus meaning they wouldn't impregnate any and could protect the women whilst their partners were away.

...bisexuals are said to have come about by appearing to be homosexual, then taking advantage of the situation whilst the hetero guys were away - sneaky!

Bi in anyway what so ever as nothing to do with an individual. Its doesn't help if your family are bi ? Are they ???

My sister is not interested in sex with either sex in any way, shape or form.

I on the other hand, love sex of all degrees with all types of people.

as far as I'm aware, I'm the only one who is bi, but both my mum and Aunt have had a bit of a dabble when curiosity struck. My family is rather open about sex and stuff and out of 9 siblings, there is only myself bi and a gay brother.

Not in my family.

Both my parents are very straight laced - and strictly heterosexual.

My older sister had a relationship with a woman - but admitted it was a reaction to needing intimacy after a bad experience with a few male relationships (she is back in the definitely hetero side now, and says same sex together is wrong)

I am bi - loving both sexes equally, would have a relationship with either.

And then my younger sister - married the first man she slept with, and is visibly uncomfortable with any same sex contact at all...

don't know if this is relevant but im bi I have a niece who is bi she's brothers daughter so its on my side and I have a gay son ...so maybes it does have a family connection

The Dawkins theory doesn't hold water. Sexuality is a range and to some extent learned. There is some evidence that stress in the first trimester of pregnancy changes an infant's development - there is evidence that an enlarged hippocampus may trend for homosexual men - Dawkins theory does go some way to explain why women communicate better and are less antagonistic to same sex relationships. The genetic link for homosexuality/bisexuality does not hold water either as over a few hundred thousand years it would breed out.

Our attitude to same sex relationships is pretty much social, though an in utero explanation may be partly true. Homo and bi- sexuality are not exclusive human traits and there is al least one mammal I am aware of that can actually switch sex in adulthood if the balance of the colony changes.

I would also suspect that what you see in your families is pretty much born out with most others but not all are as open to discussing this as your's might be.
