"You might re-evaluated how you drive, rather look at your physical and mental status when you are driving. I used to drive professionally, as in 38 ton, covering 5 to 6 hundred miles everyday. For me it was like sitting at home in an armchair relaxing in front of the telly. Learning to relax is the trick, an acquired skill. It makes you safer because you are suffering less fatigue. But there is no reason why you shouldn’t learn to use the drive as the opportunity to relax after work so you arrive where you need to be feeling refreshed. Perhaps look into an advanced driver training course as the increased driving skills and knowledge you gain will make driving much less work and stress. " five to six hundred every day!!! what did you do, throw tha tacho chart out of the window!!!!" On the grounds that it could incriminate me I can’t answer that question. And it was also in the days before speed limiters and speed cameras. The only trucks that could just about creep past me were the TNT Scania’s. It was also over-night so not much other traffic to speak of. I actually gave it up before it killed me or someone else or both. Some years after I left, the owners of the company ended up being I think the first MD’s to be prosecuted for corporate man-slaughter on account of not keeping proper records and over working drivers which on one occasion resulted in a fatal accident. It was also rumoured at the time that some transport companies (who will remain nameless) offered to pay drivers speeding fines. Some said ‘bollocks to that’ and didn’t get the job, others took the chance. Say what you like about it now but best part of 30 years ago it seemed like a good idea at the time. | |||
