I was just wondering how you would react if you found out that your 20 year old was using sex toys??

We would leave it where we found it and never mention it. We firmly believe that once past 18 their sex life is their private business unless it's abusive or dangerous.

Your mum might be embarrassed but in my opinion she needs to be adult about this. If you feel able to talk to her do so but I understand how that might be difficult, otherwise leave it and in future clean your own room

Generally, if it wash a straight toy I.E dildo for a girl, flesh light for a guy I wouldn't care.

If it was a toy associated with the opposite sex then I'd ask them about it in case they were hiding something it would do them good to get "out"

As soon as they are teenage (or upon discovering anything otherwise embarrassing for them), get them a lockable cupboard for their room and suggest they use it to keep anything private put well away where other younger family members wouldn't come across it, like, oh, "personal letters", that kind of things, with the reinforcement that it's private even from us, apart from there's any problem that comes up about anything illegal (specifically, drugs).

We're parents of an 18 and 20year old and would consider toys and of pornography perfectly normal. We've always been able to talk openly about sex and relationships with them both.

I personally think this is a huge over reaction. You are an adult after all.

You should definitely try to talk to your mum about it and be more discrete in future. It can be hard for some parents to accept that their children have grown up or feel uncomfortable about sex and toys.

I have two daughters aged 20 and 22 I have found various sex toys in their bedrooms its part of life, people masterbate and my kids are normal so why wouldnt they?

I think your mother is acting unreasonable, I have never even mentioned it if I have stumbled across my kids toys, I just leave them be and get on with collecting dirty laundry

Sounds like your mum needs to respect your needs as an adult.

I'd not realised just how lucky I am.

My parents are fairly open about sex too - especially my mum.

I expected more people my generation, and older, to be less hung up about sex... It's normal for heavens sake!

I used to make copies of porn DVD's back home when I was 18 and sell them in college thats before free interney pron was abundant... mom found the whole stash about 80 or so prints... she just told my dad to tell me to keep it locked away.... and after a while she told me just be careful as I have a younger sister at home and just respect that...

If it was CLEAN and in YOUR room in a private draw or cupboard then your mum shouldn't say anything about it.

Are you one of those 'adults' who picks and chooses when to be adult e.g. mum still does your cleaning and washing and goes in your room for your stuff.....AND she would rather you didn't leave a spunky flesh lite where she has to see it or move it.

I expect she might not have lectured you about sexual morality just about respecting her privacy or modesty.

personally I do find it hard to except that my teenage son is obviously in throes of experimenting sexually but I know it's completely normal.

Go easy on your mum she might be finding the adjustment of you being an adult hard to handle in relation to sexual side.

Maybe suggest that you'll be responsible for your room & keep it tidy so she doesn't have to come in.

In my opinion you're 20 years old and that's old enough to make your own decisions. It is natural to want toys, I'm 19 and I have a few plus outfits. I'd trust my family to not go through my things but if they found them accidentally it wouldn't be a big deal. Luckily my family have always been open and honest about these things instead of shielding me in the dark so I find it easier to talk with them if something comes up.

If it is an option for you, you should set things straight and let your mum know that you are an adult and it isn't really her business...

I wouldn't do anything. I barely go into my son's room anyway and I only pick up washing or dirty cups etc when I do. He doesn't hide his porn DVDs and knows he doesn't have to. Even if he were 16 I wouldn't say anything. I would rather he had a gf but needs must.
