I often read posts from people saying that people have asked them to pay for a hotel room, or make a contribution, until now had never had the scenario happen until this......

After some chat with a couple they sent a email to my personal email, discussed meeting up and said they don't play at home but would meet at their boat, but wanted a £25 contribution towards the mooring fee!

Seems a strange thing to ask! Now I am not against sharing costs if meeting at a hotel but this seems a little cheeky! Its like asking for a contribution towards your rent or mortgage if you play at home, or if you travel to ask for petrol or train fares lol.

What are others thoughts?

If they state clearly in their profile that they do not play at home, and would be asking for contribution towards the cost of hotel accommodation, then yes, I believe it is reasonable to ask for it.

However, if they don't specify it in their profile, then I believe it is down to you whether to accept their conditions or not.

Regardless whether to accept or not, I would advise strongly against paying anything upfront, and insist on paying cash on the day.

Ooo, with rooms as cheap as 9.00 GBP a night for Travelodge, I believe it is rather cheeky for peeps to ask for contributions myself.

I have booked rooms for 12.50 GBP and am happy to cough it up myself.

It saves me having to clean and tidy my house for sure!

Oops, sorry! I mis-read the OP's message!!!

Asking for contribution towards the mooring fee is taking the piss, sorry, as it does not cost that much to moor a boat for the night.

I have not come across many pay per night moorings, however, that is not to say there aren't any.

depends where you are and how big your boat is. It'll cost you at least £150 for a 30ft boat in Falmouth for a day

I think its wrong to ask for a contribution, its really cheeky. Swinging should be about fun and not about making a profit.

I think that if a couple message you asking to meet in a hotel, then the couple should foot the bill.

yes Iconic we agree, but many do not. Although, if you are friends and it is a mutual meet then it's nice to share.

no no no, this is the chosen place of meeting for the evening and they will be paying the mooring fee wether they meet you or not, it is to all intents and purposes thier home for the evening, paying towards the mooring fee is tantamount to meeting anyone else at thier home and paying part of the rent or mortgage.

Sharing costs paid to a 3rd party such as a hotel in understandable but not paying it to them.

going rate down here for a 30 footer overnight is around 35 quid ...u must be posh down there in falmouth !!

From what i understand the boat is moored there anyway, not like they are mooring it there to meet me so I don't see why I should be asked to make a contribution. People don't ask for contributions towards their mortgage or rent!

If we were meeting at a third parties location, hotel for example, then I would pay my share.

Just seems crazy!

Seems bloody cheeky to me if they're moored there anyway!! Next thing, they'll be asking you scrub their poop deck while you're there!
