That was a first for me this morning; I've never been phased by their questions but as she swabbed me she stood back and asked why my bum was so bruised.

I turned Crimson for some reason.

Anyone else been knocked off guard unexpectedly?

"Did you tell her?"

I was going to ask that and what was her reaction

She shouldn't have been asking questions like that I don't think. None of her business. We wouldn't ask a nurse a question like that if she had a bruise visible would we. Unless you have a closer relationship with your clinic staff but then they would have a guess I think and keep quiet. Nosy cow

Should have just told her. Nothing to be embarrassed about.

Well they all know my name by sight because I go regularly and they know my wife and I swing.

I guess she was a bit suprised. She asked why I had so many bruises and then said something like 'oh, they're self inflicted?'

I said they weren't inflicted by me! I'm usually very open with them but admitting I like to be beaten really embarrassed me.

They even know I dress up and that doesn't bother me.

maybe she was worried you were a victim of domestic abuse and might need to speak to a social worker?!

I hadn't thought of that.

That was my first thought. Years ago I banged my upper arm bruising it a couple of days before going for a blood pressure check. The nurse asked me how I got the bruising for that very reason.

Healthcare workers are trained to be observant and comment on anything they see which may be untoward, part of holistic patient care. There are many conditions which can present with excess bruising. If I saw bruises on someone I'd ask about it, not to be nosey, but because I want to be sure it's benign before you leave.
