Refused a clit piercing

So today I called a reputable piercing studio in order to enquire whether I would be able to arrange to have a clitoral hood piercing. I have been really excited about getting one and it's something that I have been talking to my Dom about for quite some time.

I was incredibly shocked and disappointed to be told that they no longer offer this kind of piercing, and that most reputable piercers will most likely have stopped offering it until recent changes to government policy regarding FGM (female genital mutilation) has been clarified. Apparently under WHO guidelines piercing and pricking (yeah the latter isn't exactly the best terminology lol) of any part of the female genitals is now lumped in with actual female genital mutilation.... Regardless of whether the female is a fully consenting adult.

I had my heart set on a tiny gold or silver ring which would rub my clit and make me think about being fucked all the time. Unfortunately because some politican can't understand the difference between consent and non consent and feels that this kind of judgemental ruling (male genital piercings are NOT considered to be male genital mutilation) is appropriate, I now don't get to wear a beautiful ring.

Sorry for the big rant. My clit and I are very disappointed

Unfortunately the potential new legislations haven't been properly cleared yet so many piercers have suspended them till it becomes clear. It could stand that even with consent they would be liable for assault so you have to understand the hesitancy in doing them at the moment.

its not a new thing that some piercers dont do it, the reasoning behind it is though.

When i had mine done 5 years ago i struggled to find a piercer that still did it.

Danielpierced, absolutely I agree, I don't blame the piercer at all, am more frustrated with the poor wording of what should be legislation to protect women from a horrific act, meaning that it includes acts which are both consensual and pleasurable.

Hopefully the legislation will be clarified and piercers will feel comfortable to do clit piercings again.

Nods Evie!! What is sad is that this was a highly recommended piercing and tattoo studio that had previously offered that service. I can see why they have stopped and I agree, finding a good one willing to do it now is as likely as winning the lottery, it feels like!

I think you will find that most woman who have received FGM either wanted it done or had parental consent. Many women after they give birth return to somalia, or similar places to have it redone so the issue of consent does not differentiate it from piercing.

Hopefully the grey area will be resolved and they can sensibly distinguish between consensual piercing and the other acts they should class as mutilation.

Yes because it is the cultural norm. They won't get a husband if they don't have it done, they are considered unclean without it, bring shame on their family.

Dress it up anyway you wish and even though by choice its body mutilation.

I am neither for or against piercings would I ever get one done no because to me it smacks a lot about vanity.

I find nowt more offputti g than when going down on a woman to come across metal.

The professionals who do piercings until all is clarified have to be careful as its their livelihood and reputation at stake.

Wakefield

The World Health Organisation has defined genital piercings as a form of FGM.

In some countries young girls are forced to have them.

The Department of Health (England) states ‘All women who have "intimate piercings" will be classified as having suffered female genital mutilation (FGM)’.

By the way it is covered by the 2003 law not new law.

New guidelines promote enforcement under the existing law for UK residents

I would be very careful of the word mutilation, the correct term is body art. With reference to tattoos or piercings your personal preference doesn't change the nature of what it is

it isnt personal preference it is the health care professionals that have deemed it female body mutilation, and until the laws/guidelines etc are all cleared up on that, then that is what it is.

I think the position stated is consistent with the law on assault. My understanding is that the law is not in favour of people permitting serious assaults upon themselves. There are many clear and obvious reasons why and some stated in this thread.

On a broader level the control of bodies is not only over riding a woman's right to decide what to do with her body but control of non-vanilla behaviour whichever gender.

OP - I'd shop around!; this looks like one studio over-reacting to press reports that the NHS *reporting protocol* for FMG will include Body Mods; it doesn't seem widespread - otherwise *all* Female Genital Piercing would have stopped.

The reason that this has happened (in the NHS) is that they have adopted the WHO definition of FMG (which itself was poorly drafted). The NHS policy has been widely criticised, as it will lead to inaccurate reporting of FMG incidence (it will not be possible to separate 'real FMG' from Body Mod, however logical it is to do so).

AFAIK, nothing has changed in law, and there is no evidence that piercers or piercees will be carted of in chains - how ever much they might enjoy that

women wanted it done??? seriously?? i think you need to read up on this...many east african countries still practise this, it is performed on prepubescent girls who are held down and, without anesthetic, have their genitals mutilated, sometimes with scissors, resulting in horrific injuries, infections and sometimes death as a result of the infections!

the new law needs tweaking..no doubt about that, but the fact that FGM is brought to the fore in this country can only be a good thing....there are doctors here practising it...2 were convicted a couple of years ago..had harley st clinics and catered to wealthy african clients...it is an indescribably horrific practice.

Is it a case of people interpreting the law too enthusiastically or does it expressly forbid and kind of genital modification?

The term mutilation is not the posters personal

Preference it's what the law defines female genital piercings as. It's sad and pathetic that a consenting adult woman has no choice in this but a male does poster is correct though, many friends of mine are piercers and tattooists and have to be extremely careful to work within the law or risk losing thier licence x

I am in possession of the facts. How many women with fgm have you discussed this with? I have worked with them for many years. Again I say its the cultural norm and women are singled out as not fit for marriage if they don't have it. After chi!dbirth they request it is redone and that's what prompted the legislation in the UK to prevent gyenacologists from returning their genitalia to the way it was before birth. I'm not agreeing with it in anyway but to say all women are forced to have it isn't the truth however much that appeals. Women choose it, whatever their motivation is, who are you to say it's any different from the motivation to have a hood piercing

Try contacting a studio where you have previously been pierced. I am having more labia piercings shortly because I already have three stretched genital piercings from a studio. But they're not doing new clients who don't already have genital piercings.

I can understand it when someone is forced to have FGM but there is a massive difference in having a female genital piercing. For one you are consenting and have to sign a consent form. The law is a sweeping ban it seems. I find it ridiculous that men can still have genital piercings but women effectively can't.

But you compared it to women being FORCED to have FGM and I was pointing out that the issue of consent does not exclude genital piercings from the FGM legislation because consent is often given for FGM as well.

Try going abroad and see if you can get mutilated, I mean pierced somewhere else.

If the equivalent of FGM was done to men then it would have been stamped out before it even started.

Just a shame that society makes people feel they need to conform and that people are still at risk of serious injury or death from an outdated tradition.

They may consent but it's probably from fear of being ostracised.

I never would have thought that my VCH was a form of FGM. Perhaps to some may shudder at the thought, but i would not be very pleased to be prevented from having one by law. It's my body and I'll do what I please with it. Granted something must done for the young girls forced into having any type of FGM, but this shouldn't interfere with a consenting adult.

I would have thought that designer vaginas are more FGM than piercings.

Consent is a very iffy issue with things like this it's the same reason that bdsm can have you done for assault because you cannot consent to harm outside of certain things.

With fgm the issue is woman is taken to wherever fgm is done when it is raised with police by doctor terrified, and heavily coerced women says "yes I consented" so the law has to be able to ignore consent so they can get a prosecution.

As you say, that's what the *2003* law states - 'excises' means "cut off"; 'infibulate' in this context means to excise all or part of the external genitalia and suture the resultant wound closed; 'mutilate' is more open to debate - but in practice, under the application of the law that has been in place for the last 12 years, has not included piercing with informed consent.

I abhor both FMG and the failure of our government and legislature historically to take robust action to curtail it; unfortunately the NHS is only going to confuse the real picture by reporting (statistically) every female genital piercing as FMG - believe me, there should be no confusion between the two, either in intent or appearance!
