If it makes people feel less important or of lesser quality thst is their feelings about themselves. Nobody can make anyone feel bad about themselves by using one word in their profile but people who feel bad about themselves will always interpret things that way. I'm just over five feet tall, if I read a profile of s did foot five person I don't start a thread wondering why they put it making all us short people feel small.

"Why do people get so wound up over this one word? From reading the replies, I don't think anybody comes across as "wound up". Just a discussion surely? " It's a subject that comes up frequently. Wound up was probably the wrong phrase but the fact we feel one word worthy of a thread indicates a level of power and importance is attributed to it in my opinion.

Do you mind if the person you are shagging isn't the sharpest tool in the box, Or do you actually want a connection with some one of the same intellectual level. "I don't mention the word on my profile. But I sure as hell take things like intelligence and type of job into account in deciding whether I want to meet someone. " So you think you can measure someone's intelligence simply by what job they do.

"This thread has been really funny. Seems to me a fun, reasonable and non-judgemental question has been asked, then people are inferring different things from it. Some needlessly negative I think. It's all good fun. Putting professional is just a word and of course anyone is free to use it as an adjective. But what is the user trying to describe about themselves by using that word? And why is that thing they are trying to describe, important to their selection as a swingers? Is it to boost the person by showcasing another one of their perceived positive attributes. Equivalent to saying "I have a six pack" for example Or Is it a selection criteria to let it be known that they do not want "non-professionals" That's my thoughts on it, maybe someone can chime in on that?" I think it doesn't matter what you put on your profile, somebody will have a problem with it.

Only people who have a chip on their shoulder about their own intelligence or job would care - and I don't want to meet anyone who's got that much of a chip on their shoulder so it's a useful filter.

If some ones a bit thick then they can probably only get a shit job. If they are bright and are doing a shit job then they probably lack drive ambition and motivation. Now, does that mean some one who is bright capable and ambitious is a better sex partner than some one who pushes a brush round the streets well I'll let you decide. And before people point out that I am generalising and not every one is the same. Yeah I know but we all do it.

"Would someone who is looking for another professional get offended if they looked down on the coffee table and saw a Daily Mirror instead of The Times, it does sound farcical but would it ruin your intellectual image of the person and in doing so deem them unfit for purpose. " I can't speak for every one but I'm looking to make connections with funny cool interesting and intelligent people. Professional people often are these things. What literature (if you can seem newspapers as such) some one has on their coffee table isn't probably going to factor into the selection process. Although it might be cool if they were reading something interesting.

Nobody can make anyone feel bad about themselves by using one word in their profile but people who feel bad about themselves will always interpret things that way. I'm just over five feet tall, if I read a profile of s did foot five person I don't start a thread wondering why they put it making all us short people feel small. I didn't say It made other people feel bad, what I said was it's a word people use to elevate themselves, it's not about how it makes other people feel, it's about how it makes the people using the word feel superior to other people I don't think you can infer someone else's motives for using a word you can only project how you feel about a word on to it. Sorry but I disagree you can see why people are using a word or phrase to try and set themselves above the rest of the people We'll agree to disagree then " We will, that's what's good about the forum people can agree to disagree, as long as it's politely. People are allowed different opinions

"why is there comments about peoples social standing on swing site Because if you are willing to have sexual intercourse with some one you really should be interested in what kind of person they are. " If you get on you get on and if you dont you dont if you dont like people using what is just a simple term as professional dont contact them. Oh and by the way it's someone not some one

"Professional sex is the only way for me! I have an application and selection process with clear criteria . An inter_iew process - and an appraisal upon completion of the task in hand! I wouldn't even contemplate un- professional sex!! "I don't suggest that social status has any impact on sexual performance. Being well educated doesn't mean you will be good in bed, it just means your more likely to have something to talk about after sexy times. " Spot on ! I've had very bad sex with a lawyer and the best ever with another. A well written profile doesn't need to include the word professional.

"As soon as I see the word professional on a profile I just move on!! ....and that's fine - it's exactly what the profiles are for. They tell you about the person and if you don't like what you read you move on. " don't think it has much to do with social status, I couldn't give a hoot if a lady is professional or not (as long as she's not on here for money lol) it's just another way of people describing themselves I guess. If you like them, and they tick your boxes, does it really matter ?

"Professional or not everyone is here for a good time" My thoughts exactly. By having friends from all walks of life, we gain more depth as people by having variety in our social circles. Professional or not, a cool person is a cool person.

"why is there comments about peoples social standing on swing site " Some people feel the need to make themselves self important by using this description. Personally I tend to ignore profiles who describe themselves as professionals as my experience has generally found them to be snobby. I don't mean posh, I mean snobs. I.e. stuck up and think they are better than they actually are... Now I am just going to put on my tin hat and hide in thus bunker...

This is what I don't understand. It's ok to declare your social status by saying you aren't a professional but not ok to declare it by saying you are. . I honestly don't get it.

Lots of people proclaim their non professional status when these threads get going. It doesn't matter one jot or iota to me what job people do or none. I don't meet based on jobs either, why would I, it isn't an indicator of anything but possible salary.......and that is maybe the reason people are so sensitive about the word professional. Yes if i was put into a category it would be Professional but as i am comfortable with myself & who i am i don't need to declare the fact to find potential swinging partners, me & Kim meet anyone despite their social standing. You will get asbo swingers whatever their class/social standing/education qualifications etc so vetting people on their educational achievements seems a bit ludicrous but whatever floats a persons boat.

"Does it matter that much? I've met (in life, not just swinging) folks from all walks of life...I find that some 'professionals' or career centred folk can be as thick as two short planks but are just good at their particular job, or they can be highly intelligent, some are great folk, some are idiots and every flavour in between, some I find agreeable....some I don't. Exactly the same can be said for people at the other end of the scale and are on benefits....some are amazing and intelligent people, some are thick idiots and lots are some other combination in between. In short, I find it doesn't matter how you earn your money, or how much of it you earn (or scrounge) it has absolutely zero bearing on how I get on with people....none whatsoever....so the word professional on a profile means nothing to me..... " This is spot on mate as you get undesirables in any sector. I remember going to a club once & doing a quiz night in which i got 17 out of the 20 general knowledge questions right, some posh people there said it not true what they about people from Essex is it...i just thought "bless them" you get dip shits at all levels.

But why do you feel the need to put it on a sex website profile, Do You constantly have to remind yourself your a professional something! You put on your profile that you're not ignorant - do you have to remind yourself of that - and why do people need to know that to have sex with you? Your profile is you telling other fab members what you think is important. It's entirely your choice. If it's irrelevant to the person reading the profile they can ignore it. It isn't anyone's right to tell you how you should or shouldn't describe yourself.

It doesn't seem to cause us any issues with meets. The inverted snobbery and threads lije this is why the term will never be removed. We don't really want to meet people as bitter as some of the responses on this thread suggest they are And personally we differentiate between swinging and this being a 'sex website' which I guess why our profile is more about our personas than a ticklist of sexual fantasies.
