finding a quiet pub

We always like to meet up for a social drink when meeting people .

But as so many pub's now have turned into gastro pub's with only a small amount of seating for non diners, it's really difficult finding somewhere to be able to sit down have a discreet chat without people overhearing the conversation.

Do other's find this is becoming more and more of a problem?

And if anyone knows of any pub's with quiet knooks where people can relax and enjoy open conversation without whispering in the Hampshire (Fareham, Portsmouth) area,

Personal messages will be very welcome.

Rather than posting in open so pub gets inundated with swingers

Cheers

We have the same problem, it gets easier in the warm weather when you can sit outside though.

True.

We have found hotel bar's quite useful, but they tend not to have a nice atmosphere and can be a bit impersonal.

A lovely pub with a nice atmosphere, is far better.

Choose a place away from where you live. Doesn't matter who is listening then.

I've stopped caring! People are just nosey. If I was in earshot, I'd listen!

Have to admit I would listen too..I would probably even move nearer to save me straining my ears.

Menston near Ilkley

Look for the ones which have all the windows boarded up, they're really quiet.
