Does it mask problems for single people that swing (or try to) instead of being in a relationship?

if you have problems in your relationship swinging will destroy it , you have to have a very stong trusting relationship to swing .

It's possible that to begin with it could just mask issues though.

Yes of course it can do in some couples - where one person only swings in an attempt to keep the other person from fucking off and leaving them.

In other couples, no. They trust and love each other and it works great.

I'd say yes this would be the case for some couples, I've seen the upset it causes via posts in the forums.

For others it enhances their relationship ~ everyone is different.

Some couples use various strategies to mask problems and swinging is probably one of those strategies.

I also think it's possible that swinging can mask problems from a couple so that one or both of them is unaware of it.

Turning to sex for some release or satisfaction can be a way of dealing with problems... but it can also be addictive ...and it can also bring its own problems I guess

I think the ideal with swinging is to try and come from a purer place... where you're doing it to be more expansive and more adventurous... where you're approaching it with a confidence and certainty in who you are, and the security of your relationship if you're in a relationship. That's why I prefer to see it from a "free love" mindset rather than the "get my fix" approach. That's my 2p anyway

THIS.

I could ask, "does drinking mask problems in a relationship?" and the pro and con arguments would all still be valid.

Not for us, we're both very happy with the lifestyle. Neither of us are looking for anything we don't have in our relationship (except variety and group play, obviously).

If there are any problems in a relationship swinging will magnify them not mask them. Couples who swing need to be strong in their relationship. If not it's a disaster waiting to happen.

We attend clubs on a regular basis and it normally involves a drive of a couple of hours. The funny thing is during that drive we really talk to each other without work, kids everyday life getting in the way so it's a way of getting problems sorted and making decisions together I know it's not quite what you meant but it does help our relationship
