little old town of Reading!

People I know from fab are suddenly popping up in my "people you may know" list on Facebook... I can understand people whose phone numbers I have, (although that is still totally unacceptable!!) but someone has just popped up, who I met on my old profile from nearly two years ago. I have a new phone and not transferred their number or spoken to them on fab on my Daisy profile... What the hell???

its Big Data profiling.

many ways it operates, but if you are a serious swinger/spy you need two devices+ do not sync them.

im not on fb + i'm not a hard core swinger, so dont have this prob.

Whilst logged into FB (on a laptop, you may also be able to do this from the app on your phone but I haven't looked)

Select the Privacy Shortcut icon (top right in the blue bar)

Click on "Who Can See My Stuff"

You will now see your profile as if you were a non logged in visitor.

You will also see a link in the black bar "View as a specific person"

I have noticed this too. Never synced my contacts to Facebook because I don't see the point. Bit worrying if they are taking call/txt details from the phone. Next they will be suggesting pics you want to share from when you met "x" recently.... :/

I am pretty comfortable with my privacy settings on fb and fab... I'm not that shy about my choice of lifestyle either.. I just feel that Fab and real life are two separate things..just a little bit disturbing to have these people pop up on my timeline.. Especially if I haven't spoken to them electronically on this device, or in one case, even met them!! Makes me wonder who my information is being sent out to.

I DID have his number. He was someone I met. When I got my new phone, I didn't enter his number into my contact list. Wasn't thinking about what's app when I made the OP - I'm now guessing he is saved as a contact on there, rather than on my phone. Chill your britches.

That's the point I was making. You have previously contacted them with 'their' number via your what's app account. That is how Facebook picks them up and suggests them as people you may know. The phone you are using now is irrelevant.

I don't think its me who needs to chill.

Entertaining thread, and more reason to despise the Facebook purchase of WhatsApp.

As has been said, keep everything separate. The data can and will be linked as different services join the dots. The reason Facebook etc are free is because they profile you to a VERY high degree and sell that data to marketing companies.

Had a similar but totally unrelated thing. A foreign Ex from many years ago who lives and has always lived abroad, no mutual friends, email or phone contact, suddenly popped up on 'People You May Know'. Spooky.

Facebook wouldn't spend huge amounts of money developing an app unless there was something in it for them.

Data mining is simple as soon as you allow the app onto your phone.

Im not sure if it still does but it used to contact anyone who was in your contact list ( assuming they had facebook) asking for a friend request on your behalf - Horrifying!

If you must have facebook on your phone use a bookmark to the mobile site and avoid the app like the plague ( and dont be conned by the "install app" demand - otherwise you will have everything in your phone mined.

If you have chrome or firefox. Download the facebook disconnect app. It stops facebook looking at the pages you View and people you mail.

I'm glad I spotted this thread as this happened to me this morning!

A guy I had met off here a year ago popped up on the suggested friends bit. I was a bit creeped out as like you have since bought a new phone & not had contact with them for a year.

I didn't know facebook own whatsapp.

That's a bit worrying if they are spying.

It's also not just a matter of what's in your contacts.

If someone else uploads their address book to Facebook, then if you're in that address book Facebook will assume that the connection is reciprocal, and ask whether you want to be friends with them.

I couldn't give a shit. My life as a swinger is not a secret from anyone.....it is part of who I am.

Two newbies at work today.....managing director made a joke to one of them about "the kind of parties I hold/attend"

One of the managers asked the new girl if she had read Fifty Shades....then told her I could teach the characters in it a few things....

I have a few fab friends on my Facebook too (although I rarely use fb to be honest!)

This is why we keep everything regarding swinging in a separate, secured and encrypted profile with a password. It's like having 2 phones.

Wow... What kind of environment do you work in? That sounds like quite unprofessional- it would make me very uncomfortable if men were making comments like that to me on my first day of work. It's not appropriate. Maybe if you are down the pub with your mates, but not in a professional environment.

I'm not ashamed of what I do or how I do it. What I don't like is people being able to stalk me through Facebook. And I'm sure they don't want me stalking them through Facebook, either!!

I agree with that. I'm not shy by any means but if I was new to a job and was asked that kind of thing I'd be very uncomfortable. It does depend on context of course maybe by new he means only been there a few weeks and that kind of relationship has been established.

This seems to be totally random!

Someone I was talking to off here a year ago appeared on my "people you may know" list about 6 months after I saved his number.

Then now I've just had another from a year ago appear! It's not straight away once you have their number in your phone, which I find odd!

Ok, so to those with a bit more knowledge than me. I have both the FB app and WhatsApp on my phone. I however, only browse Fab using Incognito (private) in Chrome. I've not Got anyone from Fab in my contacts or WhatsApp. Should that be fairly safe/discreet?
