From my experience I would see if he is willing to give it a try on his own first. It's easier to get comfortable playing with those toys when you are the one in control. Most of the advice I was thinking of has already been given but I'll reiterate that for most people douching before hand helps them feel more relaxed. Lube will be critical and for this I would suggest a fairly thick one. Personally I have used Maximus for years but have recently switched to Cobeco male powder which is great because you can make it as thick or runny as you need.
