How do you cope with homophobia?

I was outed as gay. Thing is, I'm not and want sex with women. But I have to live with people recognizing me in the street and laughing or saying nasty comments, not purchasing products from me anymore which impacts business, my life has been threatened. How do you cope?

short version.... After losing my job I went out drinking with a friend who was gay. He got me d*unk and took advantage of me by kissing in the street. As this happened a gang of black guys exited the pub, saw me kissing a man, recognized me because they lives on my street. Then proceeded to state that when I come out of my house they're going to shoot me.

Really? Perhaps you should speak to another office then. I don't think most would suggest it's in your head, most will offer support or at least take a statement.

Actually it happened in South East London. Then I bumped into the same gang in Poole, who then distributed their statement all over the south coast. It doesn't matter if I go to Bournemouth, Dorchester, Brighton, London. I get recognized in the street.

Tbh the worst I've had was off a gay man who called me a disease carrier cos I'm bi but what your experiencing is a hate crime and has to be taken seriously by the law. No matter whether your bi, gay, transgender that is your choice and you should be free to live your life without being threatened.

I doubt your face is that special that people from all over the country a) Recognise you, b) Care enough to be trying to "ruin" your life.

Sorry, just think you should get over it and yourself and spare a thought for the people that ACTUALLY suffer with homophobia and lack of acceptance for their true selves day in day out, not just worrying about how others perceive them, but fighting with themselves over something they had no choice in.

You are recognised wherever you go by everyone, and business has gone down the pan.

What on earth are you selling that the word of a gang in London has so much influence over your client base?

Is everyone who comes into contact so easily influenced?

And even if you are erronously labelled as gay, why would that affect your business?

I would love to offer advice beyond speaking to the police, and I don't want to play down your predicament, but I work in Dorset and haven't heard anything...
