Refusal to chat to Gold/Silver members

Happy New Year all!

I was chatting briefly to someone earlier who made it very bluntly clear that she would not under any circumstances have anything to do with either gold or silver members. When I tried to ask her why she felt this way, she became rude and abusive and blocked me.

Now, I'm not writing this to whine about it - each to their own and all that, however I was curious as to why someone would think like that, and whether anyone on here either agreed or had come across a similar viewpoint?

Of course, there is the possibility that the woman I chatted to was ever so slightly nuts (especially given the way the conversation ended!) but I'd like to think I was intelligent enough to understand most things, and can't for the life of me understand being a site member as a negative thing? The main reasons I'm a member are to a)support a site which has enabled me to meet some great people, and b) enjoy the few fringe benefits of being a member. I have no seedy ulterior motive for being a member.

Can anyone explain potential negative things about being a member on here??

Type "Gold Members" into the search panel on the left-hand side, and you'll see that there have been quite a few threads recently on this topic

There have been an awful lot of posts recently saying the same. But what an awfully strange reason. I just don't get it

This phrase seems to be the current popular way of saying thanks but no thanks.

When women say no, more often than not, we get asked why instead of men just accepting that we aren't interested. Is it really any wonder that some have now found an easy excuse to use rather than being blunt and telling the guy that they simply don't find them attractive for whatever reason

I've just read a few of the other posts on this in recent weeks - hadn't realised there had been so many similar threads. All I can think is that it's a rather stupid way of saying "no thanks".

I say "stupid" because with a no thanks you've at least got half a chance of the person respecting your wishes and not contacting you again. If you've said a polite "no" and they still pester you, then you can obviously block them. But, if you say "I don't chat to silver / gold members" I would imagine a high percentage of people will reply out of confusion - if only to try and find out why.

So using it as an excuse is only going to get you repeat messages to the point you'll probably end up blocking them anyway - in which case you may have well been honest from the start and said "I'm not interested"!

Menston near Ilkley

It's someone making mischief for the site, no doubt someone who owns a different and less successful site.

Report the profile to admin and let them deal with it.

In my experience, simply saying no thanks often results in a message asking why.

This was the reason tentatively proposed in other recent threads on this topic.

I can see how it would work as the rejected suitor cannot suddenly stop being a gold or silver member and having the icon displayed on his profile.

Mind you, it wouldn't prevent a torrent of follow-up questions as to why such a criterion is used..

I fail to see what rule has been broken that it would need to he reported.

I can fully appreciate that, but I suppose it'd down to basic decency. If someone sends me a polite "thanks but no thanks" I will always reply once to say "thanks for your reply anyway, much appreciated" and leave it at that.

When I got the whole "I won't chat to you because you're a silver member" thing, my immediate response was to ask why on earth they would have such a stipulation - not to be a pest, but purely out of curiosity.

I would prefer the "no thanks" approach, then just block anyone who gets arsey.
