Holiday alone

After a recent break up my mate asked me what my New Years resolution was. I told him I want to lose a few stone and go on a holiday on my own. To this he was amazed. What's people's views who has gone abroad as a single?

I often go abroad alone. Prague in January, have been to Malta and Egypt alone.

Hate bloody single supplements though.

Although not really abroad my most memorable trip was to Dublin when I went into a pub for a quick lunch and came out 10 hours later.

I take most of my holidays alone, not had any problems and met lots of people many of whom I have kept in touch with

I've done it three times now and would do it again if I could afford it. In fact I really don't think I'd want to go on holiday with anyone again - unless I was part of a couple.

I'd say Go For It. I've used that as my motto quite a few times over the last few years

Often, still do at least 1 trip a year without L usually on the bike. it has pluses and minuses.

Plus side is you move in your own time frame, go where you wish, when you wish, major minus is it can get lonely, best if you speak more than one language so able to talk to people remember most tourists will be on holiday as couples.

After a hectic 2012, daughter getting married, house full of relatives, I needed a break. My friends had other plans and I wanted an adventure.

I booked a weeks holiday to Marrakech: when I told my family, including my ex husband you'd have thought I'd said I was off to join the circus!

I joined Facebook, uploaded pictures daily, sent WhatsApp messages so they wouldn't worry: I had the time of my life! I booked with Travelsphere on their escorted tour.

If you're a confident person, comfortable in your own skin you'll have a blast. Only downside was the journey home. Outward bound you're excited, returning home no one to chat too is a drag, even though I now have a partner I'm planning a week away alone to Lake Garda.

You'll be okay!

I usually keep family and friends updated with my progress when I'm away. But I want a complete break this time, so Prague I'm not taking a phone or anything. Just a 4 night escape from everyone and everything!!

sounds bliss! I'm defo going to look into it. But I'd like a place that has the best of everything! Decent food, good weather and lovely ladies! Nothing like a holiday flirt!!

I went to Thailand a few years ago for Christmas and New Year.

Booked on a adenture trip with Explore, there were 13 of us, 3 couples and 7 singles. I had checked before that the balance wasn't overly couple heavy and it was fantastic.

Consider the type of holiday you do, personally I wouldn't want to do a beach type holiday alon

It was 2 weeks primarily spent trekking in Northern Thailand.

Morocco is awesome. I've been to Marakeech twice and Agadir once. I love the place. Not been alone yet though. Had 2 very different experiences with Marakeech. First time travelled with my sister, everyone was very friendly, no problems with local people. Second time I went with a male friend. Every where we went, he was spoke to first, I wanted to buy a bag and the stall holder refused to even speak to me about the price, kept telling me to fetch husband!

it's just different cultures! Sure in the UK you would be expected to be in the kitchen! So lighten up at least you got to see the bag! Lol

I've recently been on an escorted tour to Iceland on my own, done a Nile cruise solo and go every year to my fave spa on my own (though I have met Diamondsmiles for a day the last coupla years while I'm there)...haven't got the balls to do a beach package on my own so far, but I reckon it's only a matter of time...I'd recommend tours for any solo traveller (so long as you're reasonably outgoing)

If I had the time and money, I would book a flight anywhere and not return for a long, long time. I'm more than happy being by myself when you've got a wonderful, diverse world to explore.

I too have thought long and hard about this. Most of my mates are now married and therefore wont go away without their wife. Being recently divorced and married at a young age I am learning I missed out on a lot but think I will look stupid going on holiday alone. Also would it not get boring??

Some good tips on here though. I am looking to do the charity tours as its a nice way of meeting people and giving something to charity. Also been looking at a few swingers holidays (cruises and hotels) as I would imagine there'd be several singles on those.

I have always had at least one holiday a year on my own. When the children were small it was a chance to recharge batteries and get some "me" time, a whole week without toddlers hanging on my skirt! Now I just like to be selfish for a week, wake up, go to bed, eat, drink etc, exactly where and when I want, no negotiating, no unwanted sightseeing or pedalo rides, bliss. I have been all over the world, the Americas, Asia, Africa, never once have I felt vulnerable and when I Tell people where I've been on my own the general consensus is that I'm so brave and they could never do it. They are missing out so much, so I say go and have fun

I throughly recommend it. I travelled most of my working life and got used to enjoying and entertaining myself when abroad.....and it most definitely broadened my mind.

I'm tempted to go again next year. I've done the beach package holiday but I really fancy a city break this time. Deciding on which one is the problem

I did Florence in November, on a city break, and it was a lovely. All the sights are in walking distance and it isn't as expensive as say Venice.
