When my kids reached 15 & 18 we sat down and had a discussion, I was skint and already living in the red most of the time.

We decided between us that we would celebrate Xmas as a family time, eat good food and enjoy life together.

We also decided that we would no longer buy presents for each other, that decision was driven by my kids.

We have not bought presents for five years now and none of us are any the worse for wear, infact we are less stressed and happier for it.

Venturing up the loft on a shoogly ladder to retrieve the gifts & wrap them in cover of darkness. If you don't hear from me soon get help. I'll be lying in a tangled mess of limbs like Meryl Streep in Death Becomes Her x

I went without so my children could have. I now go without so my grandchildren can have. My children grew up knowing the value of money and work hard for their money. I've heard people complain about the cost of Christmas while they're smoking 20-30 cigarettes a day and a bottle or two of wine at the weekend.

We work hard & spoil them a bit at Christmas and birthdays. Not feeling very festive tonight and having a moan. I'll need to dig out the mistletoe and get my sparkle back xx
