A female swinging friend of mine ask me this question.I couldn't answer her.because I don't know anything called thrush in a woman. Until I Google it. Thrush is an infection that is caused by a yeast fungus. It is not a sexually transmitted infection . Men do develop it on their genital as well.

In women. Unusual, white discharge from the vagina that may be thick and look like cottage cheese. It sometimes smells yeasty..

Going down on women or men with this symptoms can be risky to the health. Have you witness any?

You can transmit thrush between partners. If you go down on someone with thrush you can get it in the back of your throat. Men often carry thrush in an almost symptomless way and can pass it on to women. That's why when you have thrush, the GP will often suggest that your partner seeks treatment too so that you don't keep giving it to each other.

Mrs JFL is allergic to penicillin, she avoids that by having other antibiotics but unfortunately some blue cheeses contain penecillin and if she inadvertantly has those it will often cause thrush.

I've only ever had thrush once and I certainly didn't want sex when I had it. Canastan cleared it up in no time though

1stly its not the same as atheletes foot. They are both fungal infections but different.

Can u spot if someone has thrush in their mouth? If thats what u r asking yes their tongue would be coated white and often sore. I have only looked after babies and immune suppressed poorly people who have it in their mouths. Women are more prone to it vaginally as it is a perfect place to grow. But it is possible to have it in the whole gastro intestinal tract . This is treated by a 1 off tablet called chlotrimazole. For more severe attacks a weeks prescrption of it is prescribed. Other medication like nystatin and daktocort and canestan can also be used.

If you want to reduce the likelihood of thrush while on antibiotics and the severity if you do get it.

Then cut out white bread and refined white sugars from your diet as they feed the yeast imbalance and make it a lot worse

No, because Candida, which causes thrush, is ubiquitous - it lives naturally in everyone's mouth, yours included! It just gets out of balance sometimes is all, in older or immune suppressed people mostly.

Men should only use them IF they're sure their partner has thrush, otherwise it might not be thrush and you should get checked out at the doctors first. Nowhere does it say the tablet is not licensed for use by men!

Me too. I always treat immediately after a course of antibiotics as a precaution now. I use the balance activ stuff for the last two days of the antibiotics and for 5 days after. I haven't had a problem since doing this.

Think You will find that antibiotics are in fact specific to destroy either bacterial or fungal growth. Broad spectrum are usually a mix to try and kill both if there is no way to identify the offender quickly or if it's life threatening.

I believe you are mistaken, few if any antibiotics are anti-fungal, none that I know of. Broad spectrum antibiotics kill a wider variety of bacteria but not fungi.

Antibiotics are not prescribed for fungal infections. That would be counterproductive, as its usually over use of antibiotics that cause fungal infections. Antifungal creams and liquids are prescribed for those.

Trust me, I am an aficionado of several types of antibiotic AND antifungal.

I think you will find they are perhaps not prescribed when the infection is still on the outside. But when it starts getting towards a kidney infection there is no cream or lotion will save you. .. Trust me. .. I'm a biochemist.

The spread and pace is perhaps why some people are given antibiotics immediately as kidney damage can be permanent

as i explained with my earlier post u can get it internally but you probably wouldnt even know you had it. Its a yeast infection. It likely would not collonize anyway.

People need to read more on here. Thrush is an easily treatable fungal infection that is rarely sexually transmitted and if it is can be easily sorted

No,that would imply that the women had BV (bacterial vaginosis),which unlike thrush requires antibiotics. Thrush on the other can be caused or exacerbated by antibiotics as they destroy the naturally occurring "healthy" bacteria in the vagina! Lots of probiotics is therefore recommended to restore it.

I must admit though that is a vagina smelt a bit fishy,I would not go anywhere near it,but each to their own!!

Men are carriers and repeating what has been said many men carry it with no symptoms, sex is not nice with thrush. I found wearing knickers where the gusset was a certain material gave me thrush.

I've seen a guy with thrush once, my hubby when he got diagnosed with diabetes. I can honestly say just from looks alone it looks far worse for a guy!!

Touch wood (knock knock) hubby got a grip of his diabetes through positive changes and its not reared its head.

Th chief question is.how do you spot it out ? Is it by constant itching or the unpleasant odour or any other tell - tale sign? I am not very good at observation. And moreover when meeting someone for the first time on the swing - scene. That anticipation and anxiety of meeting each other for the first time overtake any other issues.

Secondly when you go down on women or men you feel something is not right there. Do you call it off? Or make some excuses and bog - off. to me that is rude.so if you are in such situation what do you do?

Surely it's a bit different in Norfolk anyway. I understood that as long as someone didn't have 12 fingers and did have the same surname, sex was practically obligatory.
