You are correct. If we assume (somewhat pesimistically I would suggest) that swingers are at 500 times greater risk than the general population then the risk becomes 1:10,000 or only 25% less than dying on the road.

One is safest when one has no sexual contact with anyone. Condoms do provide protection unless these tear or are faulty to begin with

Tests, condoms, knowing peoples' sexual histories reduce the risk of STIs. They don't eliminate the risks.

If you wear a seatbelt it doesn't eliminate the risk of dying in your car but it does make life safer.

For me I prefer to use condoms for anal sex to reduce the risk of STIs. It doesn't really matter to me if other things are more dangerous than bareback sex. It's just that taking part in bareback sex would be more risk than I want.
