A lot of peeps on this site bang on about winks but have you considered why Fabswingers introduced them? They are a way of breaking ice without commitment. If I have a wink then at least I know there is some interest in my profile and I will reply to that effect. Am I wrong?

People will take them however they wish to, if that works for you then go for it. You'll find most don't think they are a great form of contact. Messaging is free so why not say hello

Winks show you cant be arsed to write a mail and wish the other party to do all the work. So *you* want to meet *them* but *they* have to make the effort to write to *you*.

Totaly agree so many say they r a waste of time i dont think so its just the same as being in a bar and someone winks at u just shows they r intrested

i see them as a way of seeing if they are interested, so if someone winks me, i wink back they message me, then i reply, but i do rarely wink at others, far too busy replying to the number of messages i get

a wink is a great way of letting people know you are interested without going into too much detail with a message that might get binned anyway!,i mean that is what winks were invented for wasn't it?.

Also important to remember that opinions are like arseholes.

I like winks and it has nothing to do with being lazy ... after all you follow up with messages ... like others say it is a nice way of conveying interest

Couples/females/males all use winks differently.

For some it`s a way of letting the receiver know you`re interested even though you may not match what they state they`re looking for, then it`s up to them to ignore or respond.

For others it`s an insult to receive a wink rather than a message as they percieve it laziness.

Some use it like flirting without wanting to message the other.

Lots of other reasons too.

Whatever you use it for is entirely your decision, at least the site provides it.

if we get winked i'll wink back if i like the look of them - they then need to respond with a message - if they don't they're truly lazy so we wouldn't be interested in meeting them anyway! They're easier to delete if you don't like the look of them, feel rude if don't respond to a message! Z

I agree, we tend to usually message but also wink and see if we get same in return, then go from there, we also tend to reply to all messages and winks eventually. x

Winks are ok in my view, true you can't convey all you can in a personal message, but it's just a quick friendly way of saying you find someone attractive! Whether easy to do or not it's still a compliment after all...

Often thought the site should offer an automated rersponse system for winks, so depending on your view of them it can either tell peeps to email or tell them you don't accept winks.

here!,here!,it's common sense,you wink,they wink back because they are interested so you then follow up with a detailed message.

A lot of people with views about winks say so in their profile. If they do, then you know where you stand, and you don't wink at them. Other than that who can be blamed for using the winks in the way in which they were intended?

Now if a crystal ball button was next to the wink button, to second guess the reaction of the person who you are winking at...that would avoid any hurt feelings...maybe...

The thing is you can reply with a wink, then the other person knows you're interested and can then write a proper message.

I know of so many who complain about winks, but when you write to them never get a reply. Surely that's worse.

up to a point i am not a fan of winks either... only because all it tells me about someone is that they were smart enough to hit a button....

no effort goes into a wink...

no personality goes into a wink....

nothing that says "by god I have to meet this person" goes into a wink.....

I was winked at, now i am confused, as we have our profile, however we also have a meet thing listed, a message would have been much better as I would know why they are winking at us!

I never considered winking back as I think a short hi message is much clearer.

Having now read the thread I was thinking i should have not emailed back!

We say no winks, no friends requests in our profile and we get at least ten of each most days.

Yes, we could ignore the fact, but it's quite disheartening the standards of ignorance within the community. And not just single males, just to say. Couples can be worse, thinking themselves above your wants.

I look at my winks about once every month or so... sometimes longer... I just forget to look.

Someone who thinks they are a good icebreaker won't know if I have seen the wink or not. I can only assume they assume I have and assume I thought they were not my type.

OK - my loss may be... but it is about time management. I can usually tell when someone who has written a short yet personal message has read my profile, I can't tell that from a wink. Message senders will always get priority... and at least they won't have to assume whether or not I have seen it.

This is what people need to learn... many people (esp. couples and single girls) will give priority to messages. And trust us, there's no shortage of messages. While you may think sending a wink is a start, for a great many people it simply is not and is something that will get totally ignored.

surely most of the people on here have now found the wink button and can manage to return a wink just to say yes i have seen the wink and would like to know more?,it really is that simple and the initial winker can then compose a nice message knowing that it is not going to be instantly deleted!.
