How late is too late.........?

Thinking about dropping off for some outdoor fun on the way home from a night out soon, but how late is too late? we will be looking for a spot about 1am ish.

Is there a general rule as to what times? or is it down to location, and luck!!

Thinking slapton, haldon or stover.... any advise from users of those areas?
