be warned about using your usb

i have found a fundamental flaw that could affect billions of USB devices. This flaw is so serious that, now that it has been revealed, you probably shouldn’t plug a USB device into your computer ever again. There are no known effective defenses against this variety of USB attack, though in the future (months or years, not days) some limited defenses might be possible. This vulnerability, which allows any USB device to take over your computer, mostly exists due to the USB Implementers Forum (the USB standards body) eschewing security in favor of maximizing the versatility, and thus the massively successful adoption, of USB. The USB IF itself notes that your only defense against this new attack vector is to only use USB devices that you 100% trust — but even then, as we’ll outline below, this won’t always protect you.

has i learned to my cost

"i have found a fundamental flaw that could affect billions of USB devices...."

Quoting large sections of someone else's work, without attribution, is considered rather bad form!

" has i learned to my cost"
If you've really been affected by the recently discovered "BadUSB" vulnerability, rather than just a virus on a USB stick, then you could be the world's first!! Maybe you should write your own paper!

I run a USB wholesaler and although this is partially correct if the USB has come from a normal supplier they are checked for faults that lead to problems, so if you have a stick that is what I call a demon stick it normally means somone or something has out it on there.

Grantham.

This was the basic part of the article.

" German security researchers have discovered that USB-connected devices have a fatal flaw. Anything that connects via USB can be reprogrammed to pose as another device.

That means a stranger's USB stick could dupe your computer into thinking it's a keyboard, then type in certain commands and quietly take control of your laptop."

Article on CNN and am sure other news outlets

Actually, it had originally been posted in site help, so I guess it was moved by Admin or one of the Mods & he wasn't using it to get a meet, more to warm others of the news about USB sticks

"You can ger kaspersky internet security. It scans all usb dedevices for nasty things. Better to be safe than sorry. "

It is not a virus or anything like that, from what I read it was the controls for the USB that had been reverse engineered, not a software but a hardware issue.

The USB tells your input port for your device that is not a USB device but a keyboard, mopuse or a router and anti-virus programmes do not pick that up.

Anyway, I posted info on where to read the article, if anyone wants to read it.

Or maybe ask the OP for info., am done answering on his behalf!
