If you've had a meet with someone, made no other plans than that, but next time you look on maybe go to verify them and there profiles been deleted, what does that say????

do they think you're a minger or a bunny boiler or are they disgusted with themselves

has this happened to anyone else?

Loads do it for all sorts of reasons none of the ones you have said like people getting scared, decide this isn't for them, partner finds out and they leave the site, move on to the next and forget those
