I haven't read that book... but apart from the bad aspects.... is it good that it's made more people want to try new things that maybe they were afraid to try before?

Now people have the 'excuse' of the book giving them ideas?

Not read it but a friend of mine runs a market stall selling lingerie and certain adult products, she told me the book was a godsend in drumming up more business for her

Ive read them. Haven't wanted to try anything. I don't like the look of the actor for the film. I assume they will make him lose the facial hair!

I have read all 3(purely for research of course). It may have opened women's eyes to light bondage etc,but i think they fall more for the male character rather than the naughtiness... Personally i thought they were a load of tosh, but worryling addictive although i found myself skipping the sex bits after a while as it all got abit samey.

it is basically porn written for women who don't like porn

I think it made more men think that if they call themselves Christian and have a 50 shades username that its an automatic knicker dropper

My daughter started reading the first one, after a third of it decided that it was simply porn and very badly written

I've never read it. It had a bit of bad press - how well it was written rather than the actual story, so I decided not to bother...Plus, BDSM isn't my thing anyway.

I read all three because a woman I was seeing at the time was reading them. I didnt really rate them I thought they were boring and repetitive..... But I still bought the crop and a few women Ive been with have liked the scenarios from the book, its all in the mind. The biggest sexual organ

The worst book I have ever read, it reads like Mills and Boon attempts porn by a teenager...

On the plus side it has meant a greater choice of interesting purchases

I agree OP... i know among my regular life friends it's sparked numerous conversations, about spanking/toys etc nothing particularly hardcore, however fun debates.

Whilst I agree they're not the best written book if they've given pleasure to people there's no harm in my eyes.

I even have a friend who credits the books with her conceiving as it made her very horny!

I agreewith the taming a bad boy theory too, but there's also the wealth/glamour etc... it's purely fiction.

Not your thing? Don't read it!

I have to jump on this.

The book came out, my then fiance read it. She loved it (she was so innocent then) and decided to explore it a little more. We did some research, and some more. And then a little more.

We went to some party's,

We went to some munches,

She loved every single second of it.

Now we are in a full time - fully respected d/s relationship and she wears a collar.

She has never in her life been happier.

So I have to say, 50 shades is badly written, coffee table drivel. It reflects nothing in regards to REAL bdsm relationships and is in every respect no more than mills and boon for the uninhibited.

But I bet it changed a few lives for the better.

So - thank you EL James for your meandering literary rubbish, and thank you for making a few women wet but mostly for getting people talking.

Xxx

i used to like reading dirty books when i was young not now though, from what i have heard those books sound like rubish and if people need to read a book to give them ideas then they must be pretty boring, especialy if they are of a certain age.

Certainly opened my eyes... I wasn't on here before I read them and it certainly made me more open, honest and daring.

No they aren't the best written books of all time, anyone can see that, but there are much worse examples on the fantasy forum on here.

I'm glad I read them, my sex life has never been better

found a copy of one of them (volume 2 I think)in a holiday cottage I was staying in.

The writing is so,so awful which makes it's success all the more impressive!!

Agree with the comment that possibly the real selling point is the 'Christian' character, a staple of writing aimed at women(think Mr Big in 'Sex and the City')

We like em broken, brooding and smouldering .. apparently ! lol

When kinksters get together they tend to meet socially and hang out together in pubs and restaurants.

These get togethers are called munches because everyone usually eats.

They are just social meets so everyone gets to know eachother.

I disliked the books and thought they were poorly written crap, but I read them because a few friends were asking about things in them that they didn't quite understand, so I wanted to know what they were asking about...plus I was curious what had created such hype.

However, they have served a purpose and got more people talking openly about sex, and also more people reading that wouldn't ordinarily read so I guess the books do have some plus points...just a shame it's the reaction to them rather than the quality of them!
