Egg......

Something that had evolved and wasn't quite the chicken yet laid that egg from which hatched the chicken...maybe.

the chicken lays the egg for a slightly newer "version" of chicken, as per Evolution. so, logically, I'd say the previous "version" chicken comes first.

although I've never seen a Cadbury's chicken, just the creme egg. some species just never evolve, clearly lol

Egg. Birds evolved from a sub-order of dinosaurs, which were egg-laying reptiles. It took millions of years for them to evolve into birds, but the method of reproduction never changed.
